We are new to video gaming. We bought PS2 in Spring for 4 girls (6 to 15yrs) to do Dance Dance Revolution & since then Karaoke Revolution. Very happy with using it for those things. We didn't want the kids just planting their bottoms for hours on end & gaming -- already have too many computer games. BUT, we just purchased some additional controllers that have a screen on them as a surprise for our upcoming long road trip to Maritimes (& next year back to DisneyWorld). They won't be able to play our only 2 games in the van or at the campsite! LOL!

Can you recommend a decent not-much-blood-&-guts PS2 game that would keep 2 kids at a time amused for some of a 2-day road trip? It doesn't have to be a recent one. Any classics you love in your family with not too hard a learning curve?

Thanks!

Not a 2 player game, but plenty of action where they could switch off...

Kingdom Hearts is an awesome game:teeth: . No blood and guts, when you beat a villan they 'pop' and release points and such that make your character stronger. Awesome graphics and best of all, its a Disney game. The different planets you go to are of movies: Tarzan, Little Mermaid, Hercules and a couple others. Every now and again you get to play alongside characters like Beast and Peter Pan. Its a fun game with an interesting storyline and pretty good music. As for learning curve, you get to practice and learn all of the moves through a tutorial in the beginning.

I love that game :hyper: :hyper:

Hope that helps,
Kelly

Shrek 2 has kept our 3 dds, 10, 10, and 7 amused for days. They also like some of the racing games. We've got a PS1 (plays on PS2) Race through WDW game that keeps us all in stiches. They love to play against me and watch me get stuck!

How about a racing game? We just picked up The Sipmsons Road Rage which is pretty fun; no blood, no guts, it doesn't matter if you smash something, sometimes it gets you extra points, even.

We have that Racing thru WDW game for the computer. LOVE it! My kids do the same thing -- love to see me get stuck -- I'm the worst one at it, especially Blizzard Beach.

The Kingdom Hearts one sounds really good (as does Shrek), but more recommendations are welcome. Hopefully I'll find something 2nd hand or reasonably priced between now & then that you've recommended.

Sorry gallaj0 -- didn't see your response until after I posted. Sounds like a game the DH might want to play after the long days driving! LOL!

Another vote for Kingdom Hearts!! My DS loves that game! He beat the game and he still plays it to unlock all of the bonus stuff! Lots of classic disney characters (good & evil!) . It isn't a 2 player game, but there is plenty to keep everyone busy.

Shrek 2 is also pretty good! It is new to our house, but it seems to be the one they fight over right now!

There is an old Disney racing game, but I think that may be boring for the older kids!

I recommend any of the Crash Bandicoot games, with our family favorite being Crash CTR (Crash Team Racing). Clean, fast, easy to learn, and lots of fun. And he is so funny.

Also, it has been out a while so you should be able to pick it up for less than $20.00.

I loved Kingdom Hearts! It'll keep them busy for HOURS!!! DH got it when we lived in VA, and I thought that it was just another one of his PS2 games. I don't get that into video games.. But this one sucked me right in!

Tiger Woods golf is good too. That was the only other game I've gotten into. And I knew nothing about golf and had absolutely no interest in golf until I played that game. Maybe not the best game for younger ones, but I've had smaller cousins that play it. And it's for all ages.

Hope you find something they like, good luck!

We've had a great time with Sly Cooper and the Thievious Racoonus - it is a great game... There is a part 2 coming out later this year but I'm not sure when. We also love the racing games, and they don't require too much skill. Kingdom Hearts has been a blast too. You might check at EB Games or any resale shop - they should have great deals.

Another vote for kingdom hearts. We have 3 ds who are teens 12 (almost 13( 14 and 16. Actually the 12 yo got it last year for his b day. They all love it. They beat the game, yes its only l player but they too try for the bonus stuff, like getting all 101 dalmatians etc. The disney characters will really put them in the mood and the music is cute too. They would call me.. come see pooh etc. , I am in the hundred acre woods now etc. Gee. Cant go wrong with it. They already want the next one thats due out in 2005.

What do you think the age appropriateness of Kingdom Hearts is? We also have a long drive in December, and I've thought about getting a PS2 and Kingdom Hearts to make the time pass quicker. Wife does not like video games (not the games themselves, but the inactivity they can cause), but she might relent if it means a more peaceful trip.

Our kids will be 7, 6 and 3. We have an old N64 in the basement that they have pulled out from time to time, but they weren't able

Oops, hit a wrong button.

Our kids will be 7, 6 and 3. We have an old N64 in the basement that they have pulled out from time to time, but they weren't able to do much more than have Mario run around. That was a year or two ago though, I would think my 7 year old could do it now, but I struggle the with controls on some of these games!

I just recently rented Nemo for my nephews 7 & 8 and I loved it too!

It starts off easy, but then it gets harder. The boys loved it!

Yes, and they do love the Crash Bandicoot games too.

I don't know how long your trip is, but check into renting them!

My two older kids (soon to be 4 and soon to be 7) are just getting into video games although they don't play them much. Disney party is a cute game. I like to play it, not sure how it would be for older kids though. Controls are easy enough for my two. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are also favorites but they tend to fight over thsoe more since they can\t play at the same time. I jsut got Hot Shots golf Fore and we all like it so far! and our absolute family favorite (from 2 on up to 60, all ability levels) that we play when family comes in from out of town is SSX (any of them are good-SSX, SSX Tricky and SSX3). It is great because boys and girls like it, any ages and you can just push buttons and still do ok. The 'turns' only last a couple of minutes and you can play against each other. It is the perfect game in my opinion!!
