I have five for curious minds...
  • NiGHTS - Originally made for the Sega Saturn, the game became famous for its addictive and beautiful gameplay. You can buy it for peanuts now on the Xbox Marketplace or a lesser version for the Wii. Made by the legendary Sonic Team.
  • Rez - Won a record amount of rewards for graphical prowess, Rez is a simple on-the-rails shooter, where everything you do is reflected in the music. Immersive, easy to pick up, impossible to put down. Available on multiple platforms.
  • Soul Calibur - Pretty much THE best fighting game ever. Available primarily on the Dreamcast, so quite old, it still looks like it was made yesterday and is no exaggeration. The responsiveness to controls and the immersive gameplay make it a must for ANY serious gamer. To keep you playing, you can unlock plenty of players, arenas and artwork (much of which is beautiful). Rated 2 in the top 10 games of all time...
  • ...Which brings me to the TOP rated game of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an N64 title and is AMAZING. It is nothing short of iconic. Pick up a cheap N64 and the game and you can thank me later.
  • A PC and Xbox game - Halo 2 - took a combat game and made it into one of the most iconic games of all time. Sort of cinematic, it treats you right and, with a pick-up-and-play system, you won't put this down. A follow-up to the original Halo: Combat Evolved it takes on the original and makes it even better!

Total War. It’s semi educational, action packed with strategy, and you can create alternative history. Empire (1600-1800’s), Medieval 2 (Medieval/Renaissance Era), Rome 2 (History in the BC Era), and Attila (Dark Ages/early Middle Ages) are all great editions.

I launched the drone camera in MSFlight Simulator from my local airport and landed underneath the group of trees in the cemetery next to where my Dad is buried. That's pretty amazing.

There used to be this great golf game for the computer called Links which had great multiplayer online capability and a course architect feature where you could build your own course. The best thing about it was this online community where they would build accurate courses for St. Andrews, Augusta, etc., so you could download those courses and play others online who'd also installed those courses.

Unfortunately, Microsoft purchased it, shuttered it, then sold it to another company that went under. But it was the most realistic, fun golf game I've ever played.

I know some of those. Have only played Halo 1 and another one later in the series.
Since some of these are console games, can we recommend console games? Because I can think of some...

I only recently got into Halo with the Master Chief Collection on PC - man, those are actually such good games! I had "played around" with the first one, but never really played through it because I never had Xbox consoles. I can see why it got such praise, especially for the time, but I think Halo 3 really just blew the roof off! What a game! I have played through CE, 2, 3, ODST, and am on Reach now, and I've been having a great time.

I think ODST was the other one I played? I remember it had flashbacks throughout the game. I really wanted to try 2 and 3 back in the day, but lost interest over the years. May have to revisit one day.

ODST is the one where there is a mystery and it jumps around in perspective and timeframe. You do not play as a Spartan, but as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. It's pretty good, but is a different kind of game. One thing that is amazing about it though is that it is SO much harder to fight the Covenant guys when you aren't Master Chief! They are even bigger - well, you are smaller - and it really shows. Chief can just, you know, run in and punch a tank, but as an ODST, you feel under pressure the entire time.

That's the one! I enjoyed the departure from the usual series. The music and dark, rainy tone felt very film noir, which I really liked. Good on Microsoft for wanting to do something a little different.

Yeah, some fans will complain about it because it is a departure, but it's really just an expansion of Halo 3 anyway and for me it's fine for them to try some different stuff.

I had lots of PC games that I always loved- the Half-Life series, Duke Nukem 3D, Jedi Knight, KotOR, Hitman series, and more.

Here's a couple that are often overlooked:

Nocturne- This was an awesome horror-action game, lots of atmosphere. Great locations (from Transylvania to a small Texas town), and lots of great monsters. The giant vampire bats were really well done. Some Lovecraft thrown in too. The controls were tricky because of the camera angles (think Alone in the Dark series).

Realms of the Haunting - 3D first person shooter but way more immersive, with video cut-scenes. With so many Doom clones out, this was one far different than any other.

Plants vs. Zombies, Portal and Portal 2, Spyro (the original 3 games for PS1 and PS2), Sly Cooper (the first 2), and the best game of all time: Minecraft Java edition
