Does anyone have any good recipes that use hot dogs?

I'm getting a new refrigerator next week and I want to use up as much stuff in my freezer as I can. I have these hot dogs that no one really likes the taste of so I was hoping I could do something with them that would mask the flavor. We only ever eat hot dogs in buns so I don't have a clue what else to do with them.

I haven't done it in years but I had a friend in college who used to LOVE cutting up hot-dogs and mixing them in with scrambled eggs. I hate to say it but they were delicious.

Also, pigs in a blanket. Everything is yummy wrapped in a biscuit of doughy goodness.

How about chili dogs? Baked beans with hot dogs? Mac and chesse with hot dogs slices.

:thumbsup2 I haven't had it in about 25 years, but Mac and cheese with hot dogs slices mixed in are tasty. Also, taco dogs, in a shell with taco fixings. You could make corn dogs, too. Grilling them makes them yummier if you have an off brand and don't love the taste.

We've put chili on these dogs before and could still taste them. I think I need to simmer them in something with a strong flavor. Or maybe I should break down and throw them out. I really hate to throw out food though.

Wow that actually made me laugh:rotfl:

If the taste you have to kill in something is the main ingredient it's time to toss them, thanks for the giggle:goodvibes

I'm afraid mac and cheese wouldn't cover up the taste. We always grill our dogs. Living in FL, we're able to grill all year round.

what about wrapping them in a pilsbury cresent roll and a slice of cheese?

If the flavor is that bad I would throw em out. No need to hurt your taste buds!

What brand are they? LOL I would go for the throw them out route. If you don't want to waste the money, you could always thaw them and take them back and switch them for something good. I'm sure a store would take them back without a receipt for exchange, especially if you said they taste awful.

I have a bunch of frozen Omaha Steak franks and I'm thinking of using them in a breakfast casserole, but I don't know if that would mask the taste of yours enough.

Honestly, I'd just toss them, give them to your dog (if you have one), or offer them up on freecycle ( I don't know if giving away food is allowed, but I have seen it on there a couple of times).

I thought that too! If you hated them the first time, don't try again.
I can tolerate them, DH and DS are the ones that don't like them. They have a strong smokey taste. Hmm, I wonder how they would be in bbq sauce. Has anyone ever cooked dogs in bbq sauce. MIL used to cook smoked sausage in it, but not sure that would be the same.

Someone oddly always brings hot dogs in bbq sauce in a crock pot to all my mom's church dinners. LOL I can't say they taste horrible, but I wouldn't kill myself eating nasty tasting hot dogs. Have a look at the label and if the ingredients are scary, which they likely are, toss those babies out.

Do you really want to eat something you "can tolerate" and your family hates? I would throw them out.

LOL, this makes me think of my nasty Hormel chili thread!!! ;)

Chili Dogs!!!

My DH grilled up hot dogs the other night... We added Alpo... I mean, Hormel chili! :rotfl:

Honestly, throw them out. They cost what, $2? At the end of summer, there are always a bunch of leftover Ballparks at the bottom of the freezer that get tossed at our house. No real loss.

You can probably get a recipe from the budget board that uses a hotel coffee maker or iron to cook the hot dogs to perfection.

In all seriousness it might just be time to throw the hot dogs out. Not wanting to waste food is commendable but at some point it kind of gets ridiculous.
