Recipes that include Hot Dogs ?

You guys are right, I'm just gonna throw them out. I got them for free. But, before you think they're cheap crappy ones, they're not. My step-father had like 10 lbs of them shipped from Western NY (where we used to live) and they were quite expensive. They are deli-made hot dogs with natural casings. They kept some and gave the rest to my brother and me. He's done this before and gotten really good ones (we're hot dog snobs) but for some reason he tried a different brand and these just weren't the same.

Sahlen's or Wardinski's? I'd have a tough time throwing them out too. As far as hot dogs go, these are top of the line! I'm a WNY'er myself-Hamburg!

What brand are they? LOL I would go for the throw them out route. If you don't want to waste the money, you could always thaw them and take them back and switch them for something good. I'm sure a store would take them back without a receipt for exchange, especially if you said they taste awful.

OMG...I'm sorry, but that's gross!

Why? Being that it's food, the store wouldn't put them back on the shelf, LOL they would throw them out. Besides, I was going on the fact that they were cheap nasty hot dogs that tasted bad. Returning them before freezing them or thawed would be the same thing. Yucky product gets returned.

How about cuting them up, sauteeing with onion, and then mixing with canned baked beans, a little mustard, brown sugar and spices?? Kinda junky, but will mask the taste.

Hot dog rice - everyone I have ever made this for loves it.

Ingedients:

Two and a half cups uncooked instant rice
Three chicken bullion cubes
6 hot dogs. Cut each in half lengthwise, then slice each half lengthwise (each hot dog is in essence "quartered"). Then chop all the quarters into small chunks.
3/4 cup each of finely chopped onion, red and green peppers.
One tbsp ground cumin
1 and 1/2 tbsp paprika
Two garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 cup olive oil

Cook rice per instructions for whatever brand you are using. Dissolve bullion cubes in water before adding rice. When rice is done, set aside.

In large frypan, heat oil on low temp. Stir in garlic, and cook until garlic begins to turn golden brown (do not overheat).
Stir in hotdogs, onion and peppers. Mix well with the garlic oil combo. Turn up heat to medium.
Stir in cumin and paprika.
Add in cooked rice and stir in thoroughly. Turn up heat slightly and cook until hotdog chunks are brown and onions start turning clear.
Serve straight from pan onto plates or bowls. Serves 4.

We've put chili on these dogs before and could still taste them. I think I need to simmer them in something with a strong flavor. Or maybe I should break down and throw them out. I really hate to throw out food though.

Yes, you should throw them out. Life is too short to eat bad food.

Years ago my mother won a newspaper recipe contest with this:

Spanish Rice

1 Onion (Cut into small pieces)
Relish
Ketchup
1 Tbsp Mustard
Salt
Pepper
Garlic
Bay Leaves
Oil
½ to 1 Cup Rice
Water (twice as much water as rice)
Hot Dogs (cut up)
Salami (cut up)

She does not have specific quantities for the recipe.

Mix first 9 ingredients in a heavy pot. Saute until onions glazed (not browned)

Add the salami and hot dogs, stirring until coated.

Add the rice, stirring until all grains coated.

Add the water, mix, cover with medium-low heat until water is all absorbed. Lift cover and stir occasionally.

When done, shut off end enjoy. Note if any rice burns it adds to the flavor.

We're from East Aurora. I used to live at the McKinley Mall when I was a teen. Is it still there?

I wouldn't throw out Sahlen's or Wardinski's, love those. We can actually get Sahlen's down here. I'm not sure what brand he got. They came in a HUGE package and when he gave them to me they were in a ziploc bag.
