We took a trip recently.....spent a week at Walt Dsney World....stayed on site...took some GrandKids....
and before I get too far along....we are returning in February 2007.....
so....despite what is said next...it is our favorite vacation destination....
anyway....certain events and circumstances lead me to believe Disney might be slipping....
is it a post-Eisner happenstance?
perhaps less attention to detail since there seems to be mre emphasis on quantity over quality.....certainly the number of guests through the turnstile seems well increased....
here's some of the troubling episodes....all "firsts" for us...and we've been there 30+ times...
1. expired/past dates on honey-mustard sauce at the food court we stayed at...
2. Same food court: one person taking orders....the other/others just standng there...doing nothing...despite a half dozen or so people in line....
3. Train ride at the Magic Kingdom wait...so the 2 guys in the cab could talk to some woman/floozie/train groupie who crawled over the rail and jumped over the ropes to get to the train cab....
4. The bus driver who drove us to the resort from the Magic Kingdom......and back to the Magic Kingdom....without announcing this or making the other stops at the resort...
once back at the MK...he changed the resort destination...we had to change buses...to get back to our resort....
5. A couple....just 2 or 3...character attendants that were snarly and rude....
6. Late postings of resort activities.
7. Park restroooms were the dirtiest we've ever seen.
8. The attendant on that "It" mobile wholed someone smoking to a smoking area....but neither her....nor anyone ...was in sight when some kid defiantly stood in the way of a tram.....even though the tram driver was bellowing "Get behind the yellow line" ....he finally moved when I yelled at him.........the kids parents needed to be yelled at too...and to be fair....I don't wholly blame Disney for this one....
9. Lack of Cast Member control in the "Family Fun Parade"....they seek out people to participate...and then let people who weren't asked in....there aren't enough instruments to go around then....and the ones originally asked get left out....
10. The Million Dreams.....be advised...the early bird gets the worm....
If you want the goodies....get there before the park opens...WELL BEFORE! But that's not why this made this list....
One of the "BIG" prizes....is staying overnight in the Castle....well...guess what? They are refurbishing the rooms....and won't be giving this prize out until after the start of the New Year....
seems to me that would be quite a let down for the hopefuls who booked their trip between 10/1 and 12/31.
11. (I'm griping) Can Disney go any more out of their way to make someone feel special? and at the same time.....make someone else feel not so special?
It wasn't my Birthday or Anniversary....it wasn't my first trip and I'm not a Newlywed....they all got special buttons....
with the Disney data bank and resources......I'm sure they know how many trips I've taken and could afford some more buttons.....
12. I noticed the price of parking jumped 2 bucks a car....as a resort guest...it doesn't affect me....
but 2 bucks? for what? the parking area hasn't been updated....the tram still leaves half full or less before I can get to the loading area...
what a cash cow!
...4 parks...Blizzard Beach....Typhoon Lagoon....
if each of the above averages 20,000 vehices per day...
6 X 20,000 = 120,000 X $2.00 = $240,000
almost a qarter million dollars....
A DAY!
Oh well....
I questioned above why these unusual things happened....I'm not sure....but I know none of that ever happened under Eisner's reign....
Plus...I've never seen the parks busier at the time of year we went....
who knows?
Except for my list....the rest of the trip was fantastic....
as I said...we're headed back in February...and can't wait!
Thanks for reading!
