Has anyone ridden Tron at rope drop lately? We are thinking of lining up for Tron during ETPE, wondering what the experience and wait times are likely to be.

DD was there a week ago, 50 minute wait when let in.
Rode it 2 more times in the afternoon with the same amount of wait.
Standby line each time. On a Sunday with rain forecast.

A week ago, I was at MK for ETPE lined up for Fantasyland. But 7DMT had a delayed opening, and Space Mountain also had a delayed opening. I hopped into the line for TRON. CMs were going up and down the line reminding people that TRON doesn't open for ETPE. It took about 20 minutes after the ride opened.

That's the thing with rope dropping a popular ride. Unless you are in the very front of the pack, the wait can be just as long as at any other time. If you're not in the first few waves, it may be better to hit something else. You can knock out three or four things in the tame you spend there.

This was a 7:30 EE in December:
We ropedropped Space Mountain and we were near the front so it was a walk-on. At least half the rope-drop crowd split off to go to Tron so we knew we would be behind them later. We debated doing Space again but DH really wanted to ride Tron the most (and Space 2x in a row is hard on my body) so we got in the Tron line about 7:45. I ducked out for a quick bathroom break before it opened at 8:00. Right at park opening the line made a major surge forward and we slow-walked through the outdoor line until we got inside. I don't recall exactly how long but I think we were off and headed for Buzz by 8:20-8:25 at the latest?

We were there last week at RD on a rainy day, with a good size crowd. We were in line for about 40 mins initially, then we rode again right away, and line was a bit shorter, maybe 20 mins.

Let me preface this by noting we're doing some modeling of wait times at the parks. So what I'm about to say IS NOT NERD TALK OKAY?

Last week we counted just under 400 people get in line for TRON at the start of Early Theme Park Entry. That is, ~400 people spent their entire 30-minute ETPE benefit on trying to reduce their wait at TRON.

For reference, we think TRON's hourly capacity averages around 1,300 per hour (1,200-1,500 is typical). So the 400th person in that initial rope-drop group was going to wait just under 19 minutes to ride.

Of course, the next question is "Does this reduce the amount of time you spend in line over the course of the day across all attractions?" The answer to that is "it depends on what else you want to ride." But I suspect the answer is no.

If I am in line for MK rope drop at 8am, then they drop the actual rope at 8:30 (Just guessing of course), I make the walk to TRON, they won't be ready to start loading people until 9am? Or am I following along wrong? Thanks for any help on this one!

Correct, TRON isn't an ETPE ride, but Tomorrowland & Fantasyland are open during ETPE. Those eligible for ETPE can get in line for TRON early, but it won't start running until normal park opening. They're getting a head start on those not eligible for ETPE, but it will still be another 30 minute wait for normal park opening, and hoping that it doesn't have a delayed opening.

Has Tron help divert some traffic away from SDMT at rope drop now?

Since Tron is not open during ETPE it pulls a bit of the crowd but not a lot. SDMT is still extremely popular at rope drop.
