We have reservations for 5/4 to celebrate our Anniversary and we are hoping for a great evening! Kids will be spending a few hours at the HRH kids club so we can enjoy some quiet time. We are planning on trying the chef's menu with the wine pairing as we have read some good reviews for this - understand that it will be expensive which is fine, as long as the experience matches the cost!! :thumbsup2

Any recent reviews would be welcome!! :surfweb:

DH & I spent our anniversary there last September. Not real recent, I know, but similar in that we were celebrating our anniversary and it was our first time there.

We did the chef's menu. Our only regret was not doing the wine pairings. My mother joined us (I know, kinda strange for an anniversary meal), and she did get the pairings. I had a sip of each of her wines, and they were truly stellar. Nice pours, too. Somewhere I'd read that Tchoup Chop was famous for its Mai Tais, so we tried those. Next time, I'd do the wine pairings :)

Let the restaurant know it's your anniversary. We did, and we were seated in a very quiet spot in the restaurant and sort of out of the way and private. I thought I'd want to be seated close to the lily ponds, but I'm so glad we ended up seated where we were. Very, very romantic and special.

The meal was exceptional and a great value, IMHO. If I recall, the chef's menu that day was around 65 or 70 bucks, plus more if you do the pairings. I enjoyed our meal as much as I enjoy our "foodie" spot here locally, which is owned and operated by a AAA Five-Diamond award winning chef. Our place locally serves very similar menus, but they start at $150 per head (more with the wine pairings).

Tchoup Chop's menu the day we were there started with a crispy tortilla topped with a very lively slaw. Next was a cooked sushi/California roll with shrimp, rice and lots of sauces drizzled on the plate. It was huge. Next was the fish course, snapper I believe, with steamed carrots and fresh cilantro. Next was the filet, potatoes in a mushroom/truffle sauce. Dessert, if I recall, involved a spongy chocolate cake, lots of white and dark chocolate sauces and fresh berries.

I wouldn't hesitate to return :)

Hope you enjoy as much as we did. Definitely do the pairings. I really wish we had.

Be certain to ask for a table near the open kitchen. The view of the chef's at work is quite a spectacle.

We were there on April 5th for dinner (our family loves all kinds of food; we have 2 DDs, 11 & 8). Haven't had a chance to post a review, so here it is:

For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and the ahi lettuce wraps.
The fried calamari was very good - crisp, not greasy exterior, tender squid inside, and the portion was very large. Quite a deal at $8, but I recall thinking the dipping sauce was not very good. The breading on the calamari also could have been "kicked up a notch" (like some cayenne) but was otherwise fine. The ahi lettuce wraps were pretty bland - nothing special. Basically sashimi on lettuce. The tuna could be benefited from a pepper-ier crust exterior or maybe some marinade. It was served w/ a sauce, which was a soy, watery sauce that ran out of the lettuce and didn't really coat the tuna w/ flavor.

Instead of bread, the restaurant serves freshly fried shrimp chips, which we all loved.

I ordered a wok-seared striped bass, which was a special that night, served over some lomein-type noodles. DH had the Hawaiian plate w/ ribs, chicken. We both had mojitos. DD11 had a seared scallop appetizer and dumpling box. DD8 ordered the kids Hawaiian plate served w/ fried rice.

My striped bass was a whole fish, deep fried, and it was enormous, served atop a heap of noodles. It was easily a 2 or 3 pound fish! I believe it was $32. It was very fresh, very simply prepared - - I thought it was fried amazingly well, but the taste was a little plain (as though the fish were dipped in plain flour before frying), and it did not pair well with the noodles. The noodles were fresh made pasta, but unfortunately it was undercooked (not even al dente) and the noodle sauce was a sweetish soy sauce with not much else. The two items did not go together well. It was a heap of noodles with the whole fried fish on top. I ate the fish and left the noodles.

DH enjoyed the Hawaiian platter. Ate all of it. I didn't try it. The chicken & ribs both looked dark as though marinated or covered in soy sauce.

DD11's dumpling box looked good (steamed dumplings) as did the scallop. DD8 said she liked her dinner, but did not eat much of it. It was like a mini version of what DH had.

We were tempted to try the chef's menu, but didn't think we would have time to return to the park to see the fireworks. As it turned out we were so full, and it started to drizzle, that we just went up to our room in RPH.

The service was excellent, and the decor is beautiful.

All in all, we enjoyed our dinner, but it didn't not live up to the BAM I was expecting!!

For a suprise, I took my wife to Emeril's for the wine pairings dinner and requested the food bar. I have to say it was a great dinner expierence (5 course meal) and each wine was not only poured, but we received a small background on it as well. The dessert was spectacular (Bananas Foster) I am going back 5-26 and already have my reservation in place for a repeat performence.

Thanks to all that posted reviews! I have enjoyed reading the all of the reviews on this board (not to mention those including food pictures!!) in preparation for our trip next week. I can't wait to try out the Tchoup on the 4th! :thumbsup2

We sat at the food bar and did the chef's menu in November and found it to be one of the best. There are more "romantic" tables though but the chefs at work are entertainment.

Somewhere I'd read that Tchoup Chop was famous for its Mai Tais, so we tried those. Next time, I'd do the wine pairings :)

That would have been me!

My wife and I still really like their Mai Tais, but the last time we were there, we split a volcano drink. Actually, we ended up splitting two!

We ate there for the 2nd time last month and we loved it! We did the chef's menu with the different courses and everything was perfect! We love the Mai-Tai's! It was a fantastic night! Worth every penny!

Looks like reviews are mixed. Check out trip advisor - www.tripadvisor.com and type in Emeril's Tchoup Chop. We are going in June - we were supposed to go in December, but I forgot my gift certificate and had to cancel last minute. I hope the food is good. If you go before I do, please post a review.

Thanks.

We ate there 4/26 and it was phenomenal food and service.

This is what we ordered-
Appetizer: Sea scallops with plantains (the scallops were the best I've ever had)
DH: Lamb (DH said it was good)
Myself: NY Strip (superb)
Dessert: Semi-sweet chocolate cake w/peanut butter, drizzled with banana foster cream. (good)

It was a great meal and we will definitely go back again soon.
