Recent Flyers-what Surprised You That You Could Not Carry On??

We flew out of columbus, oh airport, sept 29, returned oct 8th, thru mco.

On the way out of columbus. I had my quart baggies, one for my husband and one for myself. Items that were in the plastic baggies that were not in original, or marked container, were confiscated. They didn't care, what was in it, I had those little clear bottles which were only like 1-2 oz, and they wanted to toss them all out. I was lucky in the fact that my checked luggage had just gone thru the big scanner and were still visable, and the sky cap guy got my luggage so I could toss my stuff in. They took my 4 oz contact solution bottle too.

I had some old sample size shampoo bottles, that I had refilled with my "stuff". They didn't look at what was in those solid colored bottles, that were not see thru. As long as it was a branded bottle under the 3 oz they let it thru, clear generic bottle no label, took away.

In orlando, they didn't even ask to look at the quart ziplock bags w/ liquids in them. There was a super huge difference in what the 2 airports did or didn't do when looking at the quart ziplock stuff. All depends on what airport your flying thru and what screeners you get.

This is an example of the WASTE of our tax dollars. If it's in a "branded" bottle it's SAFE and if NOT it's DANGEROUS!!!! So if you put your good stuff in the elcheapo bottles from the dollar store you can keep it, but if you use nice travel bottle you lose it!

This whole mess has just made flying almost not worth the hassle, because if you get the screener on a POWER TRIP then you may be subject to more harrassment then you deserve.

And by the way, I noticed trial size contact lens solution at my local Target yesterday 2 oz bottles!

Flew out of BOS - Logan this weekend on Delta. They had a line for all those carrying on liquids in baggies for initial inspection. I thought this was a good idea for if they saw something that was not allowed they would tell you right there. They made you take all baggies out of your luggase and place it separately for screening. Worked out well.

Um, well, it's not a liquid and I did eventually get to carry it on with me but... I bought a hand-carved cane at Animal Kingdom and had it shipped back to my resort, where I picked it up the day I flew home. The store had wrapped it really well, but I was still concerned about checking it - it won't work nearly as well broken, right? So one of the TSA Agents started telling me I couldn't carry it on, it's considered a club, aka weapon? I explained what it was and how I planned to use it, and even offered to unwrap it and start using it as a mobility assistance device starting at that point - since that's why I bought it. She eventually got approval from someone higher up to let it go through. Heck, if I'd known it was going to be a problem, I would have packed my current cane in my checked bag and swapped it out for the new one. Mine's been cut to size already, so it most likely would have fit if I expanded the suitcase and repacked everything - but I'd checked my bags through at the RAC.
