Hi everybody

Long time reader, first time poster in the DVC area. I recently purchased a 200 point contract at beach club and am looking at adding on but have a couple of questions I was hoping you could all help with which will make my decision easier

1) If you book on the first day of the 11 month window (first allowable time you can book at home resort), will I ever run into issues getting the reservation I want at my home resort? We usually like to travel the first two weeks of December. For my family we would want one or two bedroom units but if we buy extra points we would want to book a studio for the grandparents

2) Can you transfer points from another member (eg through the dvc store) that is at a different resort (not beach club) then use those points at the 11 month mark to book? Or can you only transfer points from another member for your home resort (can only transfer points for beach club). My thought process is we love beach club but maybe a few trips from now we would like to try somewhere else, but sounds like booking at the 7 month mark is tough to get what you want

Thanks in advance for any responses, I spent a lot of time reading this forum before making the first purchase and I appreciate all the information on here.

1. Possibly if what you want is a studio. Those weeks get walked and the next few years are going to be hard.

2. Transfer points retain home resort always. So if you transfer another resort they have 11 months there. I believe they will only be usable by phone, which again can cause problems for studios in December at 11 months.

When traveling in early December, 7 months tends to be a waitlist zone.

1) Your time period is amongst the busiest for DVC. Even at 11 months, those weeks are difficult for BCV studios. The only weeks of the year actually. No issues for any other room type. Previous models won’t apply for a few years though.

2) points don’t change. They retain their original properties after transfer

The first 2 weeks of December is the absolute most difficult time to book at any of the DVC resorts.

1) Even at 11 months you may have a difficult time getting a studio. You should be fine for a 1BR or 2BR.
https://www.disboards.com/threads/p...-bd-charts-september-2019-2-bd-added.3689931/Not in the first 2 weeks of Dec, you should be fine at 11 months for studios.

2) No, you cannot use non BCV points at 11 months to book at BCV, even if you same some BCV points. Only BCV points can be used at 11 months at BCV. You can transfer other points to your account. They can be used at 11 months at those points' home resort and at 7 months at any resort. At 7 months there is basically no availability of studios anywhere on property, so you would need to use those transferred points to book at their home resort at close to 11 months in order to get a studio.

Check up on walking a reservation at 11 months out. Sometimes that is the only way to get a hard to book reservation.

just so I’m clear on the transfer points. If I own at beach club then transfer points from another member at animal kingdom lodge, those animal kingdom points can be used to book at 11 months at animal kingdom lodge so you retain the home resort “advantage” of using those points to book at 11 months instead of 7?

If you rent AKL points, the owner will be able to make your reservation at AKL 11 months.

You do get the 11 month advantage with the transferred in points at their resort. You can't make those reservations online though (have to call) so you're losing an hour which can be a big deal depending on what type of room you're hoping to book.

Renting points is different from transferring points. You don't own the reservation with rented points. You own the reservation with transferred points.

Correct, Points have the booking advantage not the owner, Another thing to consider is transferred points do not show up online and you must call MS to use them, That means waiting the extra hour. In early Dec, that could be a big issue,

Any modification of a reservation using transferred points must also be done by calling.

The UY of the points doesn’t change either, so make sure they will be valid for your trips. Transferred points can be banked, but not borrowed.

You are also limited to one in or out of your membership per UY, unless you are the owner of both memberships, then they do give some leeway.
