If I booked my resort and ordered upgraded Magic Bands, but then change resorts, will the bands update automatically or will I have to do something to make sure they work at my hotel?

Thanks!

You MIGHT have to stop by the front desk at your final resort.

You can go to your room first and try your MBs on the door(s.)
If they work... great.
If not, it will be a simple task to get that remedied at the front desk. (Take all MBs with you.)

OTOH, if you have a smart phone, you can use the phone to open your room door(s) and not worry about the MBs.

If your reservation is updated in MDE, you should be fine. But if there are any issues the front desk can fix it pretty quickly.

Magic Bands are not linked to the hotel specifically, they are connected to your MDE account. Sometimes there can be some lag in the MDE account recognizing the end of one leg of a split stay and the beginning of the next leg, but it's an easy fix.

Ah, that makes sense! Thanks.

Good point about the phone!

NOTHING is stored on the Magic Bands.
EVERYTHING is stored in your MDE account on Disney's servers.

Think of your Magic Band as a key to your account, that allows access to all the information kept there. You can have multiple keys (MBs) to your MDE account just like you can have multiple keys to your house. If the change in your resort is reflected in your MDE account, then the band should work just fine.

That said, as mentioned earlier, occasionally there's a glitch and a MB won't open your door. When that happens, the front desk can take care of it quickly.
