Sorry if this is confusing. We are planning a trip Mar '10. We own at SSR and BLT but looking to do BLT the entire trip.

My plan was to borrow 100 BLT points from 2010 to maximize the 11 month window and book the remainder of the stay at SSR using my SSR 2009 pts.

Then at the 7 month window try and swap my SSR days for BLT so I would have the entire 10 nights at BLT. Now my question is I have enough 2009 pts that I do not need to borrow, just did that to mximize window. At the 7 month mark I would like to use some SSR pts to replace my 2009 BLT pts that I was using so I can bank them. THis way I have BLT pts next year too.

Does that make sense? MY question is do I need to cancel the original BTL ressie to use SSR pts or can I just swap the pts and not lose the reservation.

Thanks

It does make sense and likely is workable. The issues are that you'll likely end up with multiple reservations which you can link but you'll have a risk of losing your BLT while trying to change over. Plus you'll have the extra SSR that might not be used and might or might not end up with banked BLT points in 2010 UY. Personally I'd just reserve what you can avoiding weekends at BLT and the rest at SSR. Then when the 7 month window opens, try to reserve the rest at 7 months out using SSR points. If you end up with duplicate days at BLT (some with SSR points) you could cancel some of those days that use BLT points and use them to add the additional days with just a few days remaining for your home resort window at BLT. I know it sounds confusing so here's an example.

at 11 months you book 5 week nights using BLT points.
At 7 months out you book 7 nights (starting 2 nights before the above) using SSR points. Now you have duplicate reservations so you cancel the previous BLT reservation and use the freed up BLT points to finish out the reservation. If any BLT points are left over you might bank them to the 2010 UY. The principles can carry through to even one day open at a time. You then wait list any applicable days if necessary using your SSR points.

I don't know if I can explain this well enough, but as I understand this you cannot substitue your SSR points for those BLT points unless an ADDITIONAL, exact type villa for those very same dates that you have booked for BLT is open at the 7 month window otherwise it would be defeating the purpose of the Home Resort booking advantage if you could just book your BLT reservation with your BLT points at 11 months and then at 7 months just swap them with your SSR points because then it would be as if the SSR points have Home Resort booking advantage at BLT as well.

Someone here, no doubt can explain it better then I tried to ( or will correct any misinformation I may have stated ).

That is correct, it's technically a cancelation and rebooking. But IF ANY days are available under the 7 month reservation rules, you can book those using SSR and free up the BLT which you can then use for the end of the reservation, use later or bank. In essence this gives you the equivalent of home resort priority at a non home resort but only for up to a week's advantage. That won't help for the most in demand items but can mean the difference in success and failure for a given reservation. Think of it sort of like walking a reservation using a combo of home resort and non home resort points.

Thanks Dean, what you've explained here helped me to 'see' the possibilities better.

:)
