Rebel Alliance Roll call

Sorry I have been so busy folks. Lots going on here right now. Finally back at work and free from the snow after a week. Went new car shopping. Took the old car to the insurance company to get a check since someone rear ended me. The dog had a cyst rupture. Just lots and lots going on. Did get out to the naval academy this weekend to get 8 miles in. There were still some ice patches to try to avoid but otherwise they were good. Went much slower than I had planned but covered the distance and that is all that really matters. I am hoping to be able to really catch up here soon.

I have decided this week will be 'Hell week' regarding swimming. It's just not coming along as I would like, so I am going every day this week. One day down, 4 to go! I figure, the more I'm in the water, the better.

Jeez, Katie, you deserve a break! What kind of car are you looking at? How is your dog?

Why is it hell week? Don't wear yourself out!

Good evening,
I am now in week 3 of training for the half-marathon in Ottawa and it is going well. My valentine's gift from DF: registration for the race :lovestruc. For me, it is better than chocolate and roses.
We finally got our first gold medal at the Olympics: they have put a lot of pressure on the athletes and this medal is a start of many more, I hope.

Congratulations on getting to week 3 and the medal for Canada. That was exciting to watch and it seemed like it couldn't have gone to a nice guy.

I ran 3.32 miles today. It was the first day of week 5 of my training plan. I'm up to running for 12 minute intervals now and by the end of the week I'll be up to 15 minute intervals. The plan is designed to get you to running for 30 minutes, so I'm almost half way.

Today didn't feel near as good as Saturday. Do other people feel worse after their off-days? I seem to have better runs if I have run the day before or even the two days before. Seems counter-intuitive

Barb - Congrats on your Valentine's 5K. Sorry all your plans did not go exactly the way you wanted...but you finished and that is great! We had freezing cold weather as well - the wind was horrible! Good Luck at your next 5K!!

Tiffany - Congrats to you too on the Valentine's Day 5K!!! I am so impressed with your swimming as well. It sounds like you have a really hard week of training planned...I hope you can find a bit of time to relax as well as train!

Gretchen - Way to go on the Valentine's 10K!!!! I am so impressed with the extra miles you put in...especially since you had cold and windy conditions as well. Bet you are excited to be tapering down for the Princess...you are almost there!

Katie - Sounds like you are having some really busy days. I hope that you find some free time soon!

Diane - I love that your DH gave you your entry fee for your Valentine's Day gift! That is totally better than chocolate or flowers!

j-sun - You are doing great with your training! I totally agree with you...it is so much harder for me to run after a day of rest. It is easier for me if I ran the day before or got in a good cross-training workout. I don't know if it is just a mental thing or what but I don't necessarily enjoy my days off at this point. I wonder if once I have been running for several months if this will change?

Andrea - I am excited to see what you are putting together for graphics! Don't worry if you are not super happy with them...we are all creative people and could help! I also want to say THANK YOU so much for taking the lead with our team! I know that it is a lot of work and I appreciate you always taking the time to post answers to questions, make suggestions and provide support to everyone!

AFM - Today should have been a day of rest but because I am trying to lose weight and one of my goals is to get 30 minutes of exercise each day, I did some easy workouts. I did 15 minutes of pilates work, 20 minutes on the exercise ball, 20 minutes of aerobic work with the Wii and 15 minutes of stretching. Tomorrow is a running day and I am planning on taking it kind of easy since I did so much over the weekend.

Have a great night everyone!
Jen

Hey all,

Double workout today! Felt great.

3 miles at 10am. 60 degrees and not a cloud in the sky! (don't hate me...just wait until it is 110 this July)

Then to the for Kickboxing and lifting at 5:30.

hope you all survived Singles Appreciation Weekend.

We will be watching a bunch of the Olympics on TV...especially the hockey! Hockey is huge in Minnesota and my DH and I love to watch it! We try to go to the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Gophers (our college team) games as often as possible! Jen

yes, the southern campus of the university of minnesota does have a hockey team names after a rat that digs holes in the ground.

Fortunately, the real team from Minnesota is located at the MAIN CAMPUS of the University of Minnesota in Duluth, Minnesota! GOOOOOO BULLDOGS!

( I am actually a gopher fan as well, but since I was the mascot for UMD for 4 years, I am partial to my 'Dogs! And of course anyone who is playing the Saint Cloud Community College Huskies)

Diane, what a great DF you have! He knows you well. Good luck on your continued training.

Jen, than you for my thank you! I love being able to encourage everyone and listen to everyone's stories. Where else can so many people with so many backgrounds come together with one common goal and become like a family? I love that. :grouphug:

Make sure you don't overdo it. Don't burn out! How much weight are you trying to lose and how much have you done so far? Good luck and I wish you continued success.

Singles Appreciation Weekend, love it! And yes, while sitting here in 33 degrees with the wind swaying my 21 story building, I do hate you. ;)

Today was just a 30 minute walk for me. I did 2.51 miles. I really tried to walk as fast as possible, since I seem to run better after running the day before. So hopefully pushing myself hard during today's walk will help me have a really good run tomorrow.

Did the 30 Day Shred this morning and 30 minute run/walk this afternoon. My body is going to hate me tomorrow. But I have to do something to keep myself sane, since it appears the kids will never go back to school.

I was trying desperately to check in the other day but was having an issue with my work computer and it wouldn't let me log in. For those in the know our firewall at work seems to cause issues with cookies expiring, so it was looking like it was going to sign in and then wouldn't actually sign me in. Very annoying!

Got news that my new car will be here Friday. Happy dance! Going to hit the treadmill tonight. Was going to do it this morning but ate something heavy last night and am just not feeling it right now. Thinking I might leave for work early and fill a prescription on the way.

Andrea - Well, I listened to my body and did NOTHING yesterday! I had a horrible long day at work and decided when I got home I could just skip the running and give myself a day off. I don't think I have had a total day off of exercising since January 1st so it was a bit weird!

I am trying to lose 50 pounds! :scared1: I feel pretty good though because I have already lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks. It is definitely a life-style change for me...from eating whatever I want and not exercising at all to learning how to make smart choices with food and exercising every day.

On deck for today...I will be leaving school right when my students do and coming home for a run today. My plan is to start week 6 of the C25K tonight and do a bit of cross-training as well.

Have a great day everyone!
Jen

jen, great job on the weight loss. Your body needs a rest day, don't feel guilty.

Katie, congratulations on the new car!

Andrea, thanks for trying to weigh in on my dining question on the other thread. Maybe I should ask it here.

Experienced runners, I am doing the EEC in Disney in June. The race isn't until 8PM. I'm stressing about what and when to eat that day. Any tips?

I feel surprisingly good today after the workouts yesterday. I think I will let Jillian torture me again today.

Katie, the DIS is having issues with cookies ever since the upgrade this past weekend. Lots of people are reporting that they keep getting logged out, even when they have the box checked for "keep me logged in." For my post yesterday, I had to retype it 3 times because every time I went to hit submit, it would make me log back in and I would have to retype everything. The third time I finally smartened up and copied it so I could just paste it in the new window and hit submit really fast! Annoying!

So what kind of car did you get?

Good grief, Jen! You needed a day off. I am amazed at your dedication, though. Sounds like you are well on your way to reaching that goal. What made you decide that now is the time?

I managed 2 quick miles last night, but my knees were protesting a bit from my 9 miles on Sunday. Hope to do more tonight. Have to get ready for the Princess!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday that goes by very quickly. Unless you're doing something fun, then I hope it seems to last all day! :yay:

Today is the last day of the kids extended snow break. I feel like we should do something fun. They have a two hour delay Thursday and Friday which should help us all ease back into the routine. I hope!

Andrea: Thanks for telling me about the cookies thing. I can stay logged in at home just not at work. I have the same problem with my website when I am trying to use the administration panel, but glad to know it isn't me. :)

I got a 2010 Rav4 Limited 4 cyl 4x4 in Pyrite Mika. :D So excited to be back in a truck even if it is a small one. I used to have a 4Runner and I LOVED it. Traded it in on a Honda Accord, which I loved to, but I have always missed my truck. Hoping meeting in the middle of the two with a crossover will make me happy. It has lots of bells and whistles. More than I wanted actually, but in order to get the ones I wanted I had to also get some I didn't really need.

Hi All! I am back from Sunny Palm Springs (it was 82 on Sunday - CRAZY). I officially completed my 2nd half marathon. I cut 15 minutes off of my first, and finished in 2:45. I still walked most of the race. My plan had been to walk 3/4 of a mile and run 1/4. I figured that would give me just enough of a boost to make sure I beat my time from the last half, when I only walked. I did awesome for the first 5 or 6 miles, then I was dragging. It was over 70 degrees by then (I am used to 40 for a high, so it was HOT!) and the sun was up (race didn't start until 7am). So I was dead. I stopped running and just tried to make it to the finish. I swear the entire last half of the race was up hill! I got to mile 9 and my DH had put up some cute signs to keep me going (the only ones on the entire course!) That made me smile. I knew I had to finish, but I was honestly worried that I wouldn't make it. But I rounded the last corner and ran in the last .25miles or so of the race. And I beat my original time by 15 minutes! I was excited (but dead).

The race wasn't as well put together as the Disneyland Race. I missed a lot of that organization. They did have traffic stopped for me, but I got to the finish and all they had was water and old cut up apples! Lucky for me my DH had some Valentine's roses and an orange for me. Then we limped to the car and he stopped at the gas station to get me a drink. what a good guy.

I was super stiff after the drive home on Monday (10 1/2 hours). And I was sad to come back to the cold. But I had a good time.

Good evening,
I think spring is in the air up north. It is a day off today but I had to work. There is a kind of snowstorm that is expected next wednesday: more than 10 cm. At last I will be able to use my snowblower .

Katie, I know what you mean about owning a Toyota 4-Runner. I had one from 1990 to 2003 and I liked this truck so much. Since then, I had 2 Matrix but it is not like driving a truck. My next car, which will be the last one before I retired :cool1:, will be for sure a Rav4.

As fo me, tomorrow I am taking a day off and a tempo run is scheduled. Back to work friday evening.

Diane

Great Job Manda! That is awesome and your DH sounds awesome too! You inspire me.
