Rebel Alliance Roll call

I have to share the book I am reading because I am literally laughing out loud as I read..."The Non Runner's Marathon Guide For Women...Get Off Your Butt and On With Your Training" by Dawn Dais. Seriously, if you are looking for a super funny running book, this is it. I am not sure if you would find it to be a great read if you have already done a marathon but since I am at the start of my running career...it is hilarious!

 Yes, Jen, my daughter and I read the book just before we started the training plan for this year's Princess Half and we couldn't stop laughing. :rotfl2: It really is so funny. Now, come to think of it; are you the "chipper Jen"?
Weekend plans will be clearing the snow and trying to get ready to leave for sunny FL on Wednesday. We just can't wait!!

I laugh out loud reading this book because I am SO MUCH the author and TOTALLY NOT the "chipper Jen"! I am crabby about my diet and exercise and laugh the most because I think about the same as the author. I must be insane to be running is a daily thought!

Have a wonderful trip to FL and I can't wait to hear about your run!!!!

Jen

Hi Diane!
Do you work nights or early mornings? I noticed your post was at 4:45am! You must have to be up very early!
I work early morning hours but only part-time, 16-20 hours a week. It messes with my schedule though. Yesterday I didn't get a chance to nap and I pushed myself to stay up until 10pm last night. Didn't get in a run either. Today I was relieved to not have to be at work by 5am and as a bonus, the kids have a snow day! So I went back to bed...blissful. No hope of getting a run in today though, we are having some pretty bad wind gusts and light snow, it is 27° F "Feels Like": 12° F Winds:at 25mph gusting to 41mph. Gee-you'd think it was Canada instead of Southern PA!
Might have to stay at work and hit the fitness center for a couple miles on the dreadmill tomorrow
Hope everyone has a good weekend of long runs on dry pavement with sunny skies...I can dream can't I?! :cloud9:

The wind is starting to die down here. So maybe not too much longer for you. I hardly got any sleep last night, it sounded like the roof was going to blow off. DS was up at 5:30, probably because of the wind. I still have to get my run in for today. Evenings are tough, so I hope I can get my butt in gear.

Good morning,
Luckymum22-I am working nights right now that is why I post at this hour.

I slept 2 hours this morning after work and was supposed to go for a short run but it was too windy. So instead, I did nothing :upsidedow. And after dinner, I went back to sleep for 4 hours before going back to work.
And now, I just hope that 8:00 am will be here fast.

Diane

Andrea - I am so sorry to hear about your dog. That would be a stressful situation - so very sad. I hope that you hear soon so that you at least know what you have to deal with. Pets are such an important part of the family and it is a big deal when things are not right with your special family member.

I am a stress eater as well....love chocolate to the point where I can't have any in the house or I would eat it all in one sitting. Since dieting, each time I feel the stress getting to be too much I have to start exercising. Works sometimes...not so great at others.

AFM - I am feeling so much better! As I said...ran tonight with DH. We did 5 minutes of warm up, 25 minutes of running and 5 minutes of cool down. We were really surprised at how great the running was tonight and felt we could have gone further but I have made a rule that we will stick exactly to the plan during the week and will run further on Saturdays if we feel up to it. I really do not want to push myself too hard and change the path of success that I feel I am on with this running thing. We ran 2.5 miles. My goal would be to do a "long run" on Saturday as long as we feel good. This is the 3 day of 25 minutes straight running and all of the times I have felt we could have gone longer. We will see.

Plans for the weekend...:laundy::laundy::laundy:! Seriously, my laundry situation is out of control. We will be working on the house, doing many errands, getting in a run on both Saturday and Sunday, working on report cards for my students...absolutely nothing exciting. It will be one of those weekends where I know I should get it all done, put it off as much as possible, then work like crazy and in the end wonder where my weekend went!

Jen

Jen, thanks for the wishes for my baby. Unfortunately, we did not get good news. He has hystiocytic sarcoma which is not treatable. The specialist vet said he could have from a few days to a month or more left. His regular vet will call today with a more exact prediction. I think the main goal will be to ease his suffering. I am not taking this news well.

I really need to get to a place where I choose to get up and move instead of sitting down and stress eating. But so far I'm not there yet. In fact, I think I will make that a goal of mine...

It sounds like you are both doing great with your running schedule. You are probably smart to follow it exactly and not overdo it, even when you feel like you can. I might start doing this program after my Princess recovery, to transition from walking to running. Keep us updated on your progress.

How did all your laundry go? I hate laundry, that is my absolute least favorite chore. I end up having to iron every weekend because I leave my things in the dryer for days because I hate getting them out, folding them up and delivering them, so they end up all wrinkly. I would rather vacuum until the cows come home.

Weekend plans will be clearing the snow and trying to get ready to leave for sunny FL on Wednesday. We just can't wait!!

I'm leaving on Saturday!!:banana::banana: You'll have to update us on the weather once you're there.

Diane, how do you keep yourself together with that schedule? I would be crazy trying to keep everything straight!

I managed to get in my 10 miles on Saturday. The last 3 or so were slow, but I did them all. Now for the taper until my 13.1 on Sunday. Man, I hope I'm ready.

I hope everyone has a great week!

I'm so sorry. My dogs are definitely part of the family so I know how much it can hurt.

Hi All!
I have been MIA for a while but I am trying to get back to it. Exercise has been minimal for the past couple of weeks. I have been too busy watching the Olympics. But they are over, time to get back to work!

It was very windy here today too, but I did 3.4 miles at 8:55 min/mile.

This past weekend my wife and I went to the first day of the AMC Best Picture showcase. We saw 5 of the best picture nominees. This Saturday, coming up, we'll see the other five. This week we saw, Avatar, Up, A Serious Man, Precious, and District 9. In case you're curious this is how I have them ranked so far:

1) Up
2) District 9
3) Precious
4) Avatar
5) A Serious Man

It was a lot of fun, so if you have an AMC theater nearby that's doing it you should this week.

Really sorry to hear about this. I know how attached to my dogs I am. I don't know how I'll handle things when the time comes. I actually work at an animal hospital and I'm hoping to go to vet school in about 2 years, so I'm trying to get used to dealing with this kind of thing.

Hang in there. I'm sure it's very hard, but hopefully running can clear your mind. We're all here for you if you need us :grouphug:

Oh Andrea, I am so sorry to hear the news on your furbaby. I know how special our pets are and I have been through this experience before. If you need a shoulder, please feel free to use mine.
Hope to see you at the Princess Half. :wave2:

Andrea, sorry to hear that news. My 17 year old dog died from liver cancer. The vet recommended euthanizing her when they found the tumor. We decided to wait and got to spend another 4 months with her. She had horrible seizures for a day in a half when her liver stopped working properly and we knew it was time to let her go. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but I knew it was best. I got her when I was ten it's been 10 years and I still haven't gotten another dog. Treasure every moment you have and spoil him like crazy.

Good evening,
I went for my long run today and even though it was only a 9k it wasn't easy and I don't know why. Anyway, it's in the book.
Andrea: Sorry about your dog. I know how you feel because one of mine is now 15 years old and I know that we have a difficult decision coming up in the next month. But he's been so much of a good friend, I don't want him to suffer.
I think we need to come up with a tittle for a new thread for March: any ideas???
Good luck to those of you doing the Princess this week-end. :cheer2:

Hey Andrea -
I am so sorry to hear that you got sad news. I hope that you are able to help your dog through this difficult time. We are all hear to listen too if you are sad.

I know you are stressed but if you want some support to change the eating situation...we are here for that too! I tell you, I struggle with stress eating every day of my life and it has been the hardest part of my weight loss journey. I have now reached 22 pounds gone and I have to focus on it every minute not to give in to the temptations of eating still. The other changes I have made have become habits and are not very hard at this point. The eating is not habit yet.

You are so ready for the Princess! You will rock! Here is a bit of pixie dust to help boost your confidence :wizard: You will do it and I hope you enjoy every moment of the experience!

Hi All!
I have been MIA for a while but I am trying to get back to it. Exercise has been minimal for the past couple of weeks. I have been too busy watching the Olympics. But they are over, time to get back to work!

Hello again! Glad to see you back on the thread - I think everyone is returning to normal after the Olympics.

It was very windy here today too, but I did 3.4 miles at 8:55 min/mile.

OMG! I can only dream of times that fast! That is incredible to me!

Good evening,
I went for my long run today and even though it was only a 9k it wasn't easy and I don't know why. Anyway, it's in the book.

I hate runs that are not easy - it seems like about once a week I have a run that just does not go as I plan. I think it is great that you still stuck it out and did it!

AFM - I have been a bit busy these past few days with so much going on. I am working hard on the diet still and had a bad couple of weeks. Didn't gain weight but know that I did not do all that I could have done. This week I have to get back to some of my beginning habits and get back on the serious track again. I still have 30 more pounds to lose and I can't afford to let up at all.

I am happy with my running progress. DH and I are now in the 8th week of the C25K and I am preparing to find a 1/2 marathon training plan that I like. We have now had 3 runs in a row where we completed 5K and today we ran the whole thing from start to finish with no walking and we were even able to talk easily the first 2 miles!

I am feeling good about my first event - a 7K in 3 weeks. I got this great running skirt from runningskirts.com and a matching duo dry shirt on clearance at Target. Yes - it is important to look good while running! :rotfl: I also got my Garmin 305 delivered today so I will look like I know what I am doing! :rotfl2: I have been reading all kinds of running books so I can also talk like I know what I am doing. Then, now that I can run 5K and still feel fine at the end makes me feel like I will be able to complete the whole 7K!

Hope everyone else is have a great week!
Jen

Thanks, everyone, for the kind replies. My childhood dog died about 9 years ago (we were on a vacation and when I went to pick him up from the kennel, they told me - but that's another story). I wasn't ready for another dog, but my mom was, so this really has been her dog. I never really bonded as emotionally with him as I did "my" dog, though I love him very much. But now I have to watch him get sicker and sicker before he passes, which I didn't do with my old dog. He's stopped eating, so he's skin and bones, and we can't play with him anymore because apparently his liver and spleen are full of tumors and the vet is afraid that any activity could cause them to rupture, and he's just laying around the house sleeping or getting sick. He barely has the energy to greet me when I come through the door anymore. And he's only 8, which seems so unfair. We're supposed to have many more years with him before his time is up. Okay, now that I'm crying at work, I need to change the subject. But thanks again, everyone, for the kind words. I really appreciate them.

Good for you, Diane, for getting that 9k done! :cheer2:

Hmm, how about "Rebels Marching Forward" or something to that effect? If we come up with a title, I will start the new thread and list the team members again.

Thanks, Jen, for the encouragement! I need it! :rolleyes1

I think that's probably the hardest part of a weight loss journey - the new eating habits. Anybody can go on a diet and lose weight, but if you just go back to your old eating habits, all the weight will just come right back. It's about making a lifestyle change, I think that's the 'official' term for it. It's very hard! But I'm trying...

I'm so proud of you for doing that running program and sticking with it! You are actual physical quantifiable proof that it works! I will definitely get started on that after my recovery.

You are going to rock that 7k. :cheer2: That will be a breeze for you after all your training. I love my garmin, it's so handy. I know there are tons more features I haven't even gotten into yet, but right now I am so pleased with the pace, mileage and lap features that I'm content. And, yes, you do have to look stylish in a race! A lot of my prepping for the Princess has been what to wear. :rolleyes1 It took me forever, but I think I finally found a skirt that works with all the junk in my trunk. I will try it out at the race. I know right now it seems like a big deal, but I'm sure by the end of the race, I won't give a rat's a** what I look like! But I have to try.:cutie:

2) District 9
3) Precious
4) Avatar
5) A Serious Man

It was a lot of fun, so if you have an AMC theater nearby that's doing it you should this week.

That movie thing sounds like fun! Did you get tired of sitting for so long, or were you so entertained that you didn't even notice? I loved Up and Avatar, but I haven't seen the other 3. District 9 is in my Blockbuster queue, so I'll see it eventually.

Well, it's Wednesday, so we're halfway through the week! :woohoo: It snowed a little here last night, so of course everything closed down (except my office, curiously...). I wish I had a treadmill at home so I could walk during this kind of weather (or when it's cold, or hot, or something good is on TV...). I understand Atlanta had a bunch of flight cancellations because of the same nor'easter. I'm going through there Saturday morning on my way to Princess, so I hope this crap is over before then. Two and a half more days of work for me, then I'm off to the World! :yay:

Andrea - First of all.... I will continue to think of you each day. You are right that it just isn't fair. :sad2:

Second....the lifestyle change is hard. There are days where I totally hate the diet, days where I find so many things standing in my way, days where I just crave certain foods....then there are days where I feel great, days where my "skinny" pants fit and I feel empowered, days where I know no matter what I have to stick with it. I keep hoping that one day it will not always be such a battle but I just think it is going to take a long time for me. I would not be doing as good without the BL9 though - posting there and doing the weigh ins keeps me honest.

Thank you so much for all the encouragement you always give me with my running and training! I have been dreaming about my running and am terrified about showing up for my first "race". I know that it is all silly and hope that when I finish my first one it will get easier.

What did you find to wear for the Princess? I know you said a skirt but what color? What about your shirt? Are you wearing a tiara? I am already thinking about what I will wear for the Princess in 2011!

I am so excited about your trip! I can't wait to hear about every step of the experience!

Alright - I am going to try to get to bed! Hope everyone had a great Wednesday. Oooh...just have to say that I actually did my cross training tonight! I have been trying to ignore it but no more...it felt great when I was done.

Later,
Jen

Well, we heard from the vet. She pretty much said we would know when the time is right to end his suffering. She also said to go ahead and give him whatever he wants. Spaghetti, hot dogs, whatever. Just make him happy. And boy did he devour his 2 hotdogs last night! Hasn't eaten regular food in 2 days, but he practically inhaled the sliced hotdogs! I doubt he even tasted them.

I know what you mean about the dreaming - I had a stress dream about my race last weekend. And then my mom had one the next night! This is my first race ever, too, so I'm unsure about what to expect. I imagine I'll be more confident for my next race.

As for the outfit, I decided on black capris with a black skirt and a red tech tee. The red and black are for my running group. I will have a black visor with a pink foam crown on it. I will have a white and pink Mickey princess ribbon on my ponytail. I hope it works for the race...

And here's a question for the team:

I had a thought about the team thread. I know a lot of the teams start new threads every month, but do you guys want to do that? Or would you rather just keep one thread going indefinitely? What are your thoughts on that?

I was thinking about this too, so I'm glad you mentioned it! I would like a new thread every month.

Good morning RRRRRRRRRebel,
Oups sorry: it is 5:20 am, I am at work and I guess I doze for a couple of secondssssssssss :lmao:.
It's been pretty busy but I am now on my breakfast-lunch dinner break (I never know which one when I am working the graveyard shift).

Jen_ Bravo on your training. I love what you say about reading all the books, wearing your Garmin and the nice running outfit for your race; you will look like a pro. I am also thinking of doing the Princess in 2011 even though I know how difficult it will be to train in the cold and snow. But I did the Minnie marathon in May 2007 and I loved running with all the ladies.

Andrea_ I would like a new thread each month

AFM_ I am in week 5 of my training for my half at the end of May and it is going ok. The next week will be a challenge because I am working the graveyard shift for the next 7 days :scared1:.

have a nice day.
Diane

Hello everyone!
I did W5D2 of c25k yesterday. I am working my way back through the program just to try to get my run intervals longer and increase my speed a little. Next up is the 20 min run, we'll see how I do with that. I have a 5k scheduled on April 17th and my DS9 is doing a kids duathlon, then Expedition Everest Challenge in June. I am more seriously considering joining Team in Training for the half at disney in January, but it's too early to sign up with them yet. I have two friends who's 4 year olds were recently diagnosed with Leukemia and another child in our community just passed away on Sunday from Leukemia and I am beginning to feel like this is really something I should do. But 13 miles is a long way from the 3.5 I can do now.
