Reasons why some people may cancel an ADR the day before or day of the ADR

I would cancel an ADR last minute if my kids were not able to sit at a table service meal/buffet. We have an ADR for Alfredo's for dinner this coming Wednesday. If my kids are cranky, hot, tired, etc. and I feel they will be distracting to other diners, I will cancel the ressie - even up to 5 minutes before. Sorry if that is seen as "rude" to those who wish to dine there and cannot get a ressie, but I think it would be more impolite to subject diners to the meltdowns of a 2 and 4 year old. Hey, there's always a CS place to grab some grub - and in Epcot, it doesn't have to be burgers and fries!

I don't know, am I alone in this? I don't think this is wrong. I mean, how are you supposed to know how your children are going to be acting/feeling 7 days, or 3 months in advance? I actually think it's very nice of you to handle the situation like that and go for CS. :goodvibes

And I don't think this happens a lot to a family at WDW, probably just once, maybe twice.

In all the WDW vacations with our little ones, this has never even happened once. But we don't eat TS everyday usually.

I don't think anyone has an issue with a guest that cancels an ADR, even with short notice, because their plans change for whatever reason.

Many (most?) of us have an issue with guests that book multiple ADRs for the same meal and either wait until the last minute to cancel the extras or in some cases just don't show up. At the time the ADR is made the guest knows there is no chance both ADRs will be used.

ITA! :)

I had to cancel an ADR once with about an hour's notice. DD came down with Strep in the MK and had a fever of 104. I just walked up to the Crystal Palace and told them and they were fine about it. I don't make it a habit but I really had no choice. She had to go back to the hotel and rest, it was very hot out and with the fever and all she was done. I think things happen and the CMs understand. It's just called life.

I agree that if you made the ADR with the intention to use it, if you need to cancel at the last day/minute, regardless of the reason, then you may have made a "walk-up's" day! To not cancel is very poor manners!
