Hi,

dh, dd and I are just back from our first disney holiday and while we were there we went on the dvc tour which we really enjoyed and have pretty much decided that we want to buy however as we did the tour on Sun (our last day) I told the guide I would ring him by Thurs with an answer.

We had decided on SSR as thats the one we looked at the rooms for and got a good (so i thought) incentive and although the guide told us a bit about AKV we didn't look at the rooms (only found out tonight that they are there) and the guide didn't mention any incentives so now we would def consider AKV as our choice was based as the discounts at SSR. Still with me?!?!:confused3

So... the deal we got at SSR was £5.075 discount per point (think it was worked out at $1.96 so $9.947) and then eg 160 points now and 160 points at begining of use year in either Dec/Feb/April.

Is this good? He told us we had until thurs to decide but is this offer always available and will there be others for AKV?

I have read a few threads but they all say diff things and am confused about the difference between Jambo House and Kidani Village. Rep did say that if bought AKV then wouldn't be avail until 2009 so assume its Kidani he was talking about?

Any help would be really appreciated - many thanks,

Christie

ps - I am e-mailing the guide but still wanted your unbiased thoughts!

Christie,
Ask yourself where you would like to stay the most. It will be easier to get into Saratoga Spring than it will be to get Concierge or Savanna View at AKV. There is a huge difference in Resorts. I believe from what I have read there is a small difference with incentives. I own at AKV, just had my first stay, it was wonderful.

Christie - if you Google dvcnews, they have a list of the current incentives for both SSR and AKL. Your SSR offer is the same as what we received in February (although we got extra points with a member referral) -- $10 off per point, and we received 2007 points in addition to the 2008 points.

For AKV, because it's under construction, they're doing an incentive where you get points to use at SSR now, and future points at AKV (because it's not built yet) or something similar. Check out that web site and you should find the information.

That sounds very much like the experience we had on our tour. My guess is the reps are wanting to finish off SSR, so they breeze through AKV info. They gave us a 3 day limit, but I'm thinking if I call them on day 5 ready to sign somehow they'd find a way ;)

Also, it won't hurt to browse through the DVC resales. They are cheaper and you can get other resorts.

My opinion is that the deal you are being offered is okay but I would suggest that you take a little time and find out more about the DVC before you buy. You'll be able to easily match their offer in the future. The DVC has six properties at WDW. When you buy, you "buy" at one of the six and this enables you to reserve rooms at that one up to 11 months in advance. At the seven month mark, you can reserve at any of the others. This is why everyone always says buy at the one where you want to stay. Points for any of the six are available on the resale market (which is how we bought - look at the resale section of this site). My wife and I visited each of the DVC resorts before we decided on the one we wanted. I'm glad that we did because they all "feel" different. Good luck.

Actually, if you wait beyond the 3 day limit, you will not get the same "deal".

Would they really turn down the sale if you said no deal otherwise?

I get really turned off quick by high pressure tactics like that.

Why is that? Or how do you know that? We waited 3 weeks after our tour and meeting with our guide and we got the same deal that had been offered to us. Is it because they are ending a particular promotion at that time or something? I never heard of them putting the pressure on like that, unless the overall DVC incentives for that resort were ending (we waited and called on the last day of the current promotion ourselves).

I don't think this is true at all. DH went to a talk in the MK on Friday, May 16. We received a "just touching base" call yesterday, May 22, from one of the sales reps who did the talk. There was no pressure and no mention of losing any of the incentives if we didn't sign right away. The sales talk at MK was for SSR, but we were more interested in AKV, so he told me the available incentives for that purchase. ($8 back/point and matching points at SSR at Disney or any other hotel listed that's not Disney to be used within the next year). There was no time frame to sign or anything like that. :confused3

The part of the "deal" that changes is the ability to finance etc. They certainly will sell to you no matter when you want to buy, but they only offer their "deal" once. At least that was our experience 11 years ago.

That is my hope, funny I had a Freudian typo and initially typed that is my home, LOL. We also did our talk/tour) on the 16th. It is just such a big purchase, we don't want to take lightly. I can understand a reasonable time limit, but unless they were selling off the last very few memberships for that resort would I think it would be an issue of days.

They are pushing SSR because by the end of the month it will be closed out. When I talked to Brian yeasterday I wanted Animal K. but he was talking SSR due to the fact they will give you last years points and this years points plus the 10 off per point and a 500 gift card. He was also going to make it the same UY as my others.

There is a push to close it out i guess. Its a great deal if you want SSR. I don't, I want animal kingdom. So I told he to call me back on Saturday when he was in the office.

I want to have enough points to do 11 months out for a reservation there. Animal K is going with equal points for SSR (or any other disney package except the DVC)for 1 year because they have not finished the buildings yet. they are also giving you the current year (2008) to bank and 2009 is use. They will also make them the same UY.

Both deals are very good.

Just my opinion, but saving a few dollars (or Euros) would be a distant second on my decision making list.

Where do you want the 11 month window??
THAT should be your number 1 concern. (Again that's just my opinion.)

A couple considerations..
- Which resort do you like better?
- With so many different booking options at AKV, the 11 month window may be more valuble there.

I am still annoyed that my guide kept me from seeing the AK models. Is that typical? I understand playing up SSR, but to not show it to us and brush it off as "oh its the same layout"? She said the only reason to buy AK is if we just absolutely HATE SSR and that SSR is much better deal because of getting the 2007 pts and not being able to use our pts for AKV until 09. It wasn't until reading DISBoards when we came back that I learned of the AK developer pts that we could use @ SSR immediately. I feel like telling her I could have made up my mind quicker if I'd been given the chance to view and be informed about AKV better, LOL. I know, I make too much of it. *sigh*

Just curious.. How long ago did you purchase SSR?
