Really Powerful Disney Songs

"Someday" from Hunchback...

Someday
When we are wiser
When the world's older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed will not pay
God speed
This bright millenium
On its way
Let it come
Someday

Someday
Our fight will be won then
We'll stand in the sun then
That bright afternoon
Till then
On days when the sun is gone
We'll hang on
Wish upon the moon

There are some days dark and bitter
Seems we haven't got a prayer
But a prayer for someday better
Is the one thing we all share

Someday
When we are wiser
When the world's older
When we have learned
I pray
Someday we may yet live
To live and let live
Someday
Life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed wil not pay
God speed
This bright millenium
Let it come
Wish upon the moon
One day
Someday
Soon.

The two that really make me tear up are "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story 2, and "Go the Distance" from Hercules.

"When She Loved Me" somehow always makes me think of my DD growing up and not needing me anymore- even though I know she will still love me, the idea from the song of a child outgrowing her beloved childhood friend just gives me a lump in my throat.

"Go the Distance"- I'm not even sure what makes it so powerful to me. It just makes me get misty-eyed listening to it. The first few lines get to me:

I have often dreamed
Of a far off place
Where a big warm welcome
Will be waiting for me.

MomofKatie - I'm a DadofKatie - and I totally agree with When She Loved Me.

I agree on this one. I think what makes it so powerful is the intensely rich music in the song. It's just a really powerful sounding song. :)

You know what? You are completely right! That is a great, motivating song. I spent 3 years in college not knowing what I was going major in, let alone what I wanted to do with my life. Then I was invited to participate in the WDW College Program in 1997, the same summer Hercules came out. This song seemed to exemplify exactly what I was feeling! And WDW did seem to be the place: "a big warm welcome will be waiting for me". And it put me on the right track, as I picked a major and finally graduated!

Also, my roommate that spring was a dance major, and she and I would totally cut-up and act silly; she liked to "dramatically interpret" my Disney CD's, and this was one she and I (who is definitely not a dance major!!!) would "dramatically interpret" after we had a few wine coolers! (I know, I just displayed my un-coolness with the dramatic interpretations but especially the wine coolers!) You should have seen her "dramatically interpret" "Part of your World" when she was tipsy!!!

"Every evening, brings an ending,
Everyday becomes a legacy
Every sunset leads to morning
With the promise of opportunity

We can reach for the stars we find along the way
dreaming as learn to love everyday

Promise, we'll walk side by side

As a new day dawns, we'll go on

It gets me so bad, I can't even make it past the first couple of seconds of the song before I go into (as Oprah calls it) "the ugly cry". DH, who doesn't have a sentimental bone in his body, does this every time he sees me blubbering:  Even DD, who is only 6, looks at me and says, "Mommy, why are you crying? It's only a song!" I guess I'm just the crying mess of the family.

'Bells of Notre Dame' makes my arm hair stand up. That last note is incredible.

As far as lyrics I think most of mine have been mentioned.

'When she Loved Me'
'Best of Friends' from Fox and the Hound
'God help the Outcasts'
'Feed the Birds' (I think this is my favorite Disney song)
'Go the Distance'

There are many more.

The song from Fantasia with the Pegasus (sp) and Centaurs is one I love as well.

ETA: I can't believe I forgot that song from the old Tapestry of Nations Parade...don't know the name...you know 'hey la hey la hay la...'

I agree with the previous posters with all of the selections given, especially the song from Tarzan where his adopted mother (Glenn Close) sings to him (I can't think of the name/melody right now and my copy of the video is packed up).

I did dig up my classic Disney volume 2 because it has my FAVORITE Disney tune, the Main Street Electrical Parade on it. It also has Part of Your World and Candle on the Water on it. I guess I will be listening to this CD for awhile. :goodvibes

Definitely Circle of Life. When we watch the movie and the black screen with the title comes up right as the last note booms it gives me the chills everytime. Amazing.

I have to agree on "When She Loved Me" too. So much in fact, that I went and found the lyrics:

When she loved me
Sarah mc lachlan

When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful
Every hour we spent together, lives within my heart
And when she was sad, I was there to dry her tears
And when she was happy, so was i, when she loved me.

Through the summer and the fall, we had each other, that was all
Just she and I together, like it was meant to be
And when she was lonely, I was there to comfort her
And I knew that she loved me.

So the years went by, I stayed the same
And she began to drift away, I was left alone
Still I waited for the day, when she’d say "i will always love you."

Lonely and forgotten, never thought she’d look my way,
She smiled at me and held me, just like she used to do,
Like she loved me, when she loved me

When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful,
Every hour we spent together, lives within my heart
When she loved me.

That song makes me sob every single time.

I have to go with Reflections.

But a song that makes me teary is "Baby Mine" from Dumbo.

Mine is the entire "Wishes" sound track from the fireworks spectacular. I can close my eyes and just be there all over again. I think the words apply to all of us, young or old, as we continue to wish with our hearts no matter how old we get. I know I am 51 and just hearing it takes me right to the overwhelming feeling I have when I walk down Main St and see that castle everytime we go! It is unexplainable!

I still haven't seen "Wishes" and I really can't wait. I might need to buy the CD, even if I haven't seen it yet. :teeth:

I also love Illuminations!

The Illuminations song (woman singing) is a great tune. It's short, but very moving. I have the CD, but can't remember the song's name.

Colors of the Wind

Vocals: Pocahontas (Judy Kuhn)
Music: Alan Menken
Lyrics: Stephen Schwartz

You think I'm an ignorant savage
And you've been so many places
I guess it must be so
But still I cannot see
If the savage one is me
Now can there be so much that you don't know?
You don't know ...

You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

How high will the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon

For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the Earth and still
All you'll own is Earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind

When You Wish Upon a Star

Performed by: Jimini Cricket (Cliff Edwards)
Music: Leigh Harline
Lyrics: Ned Washington

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those to love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

This song is the crown glory of all powerful songs.....this brings anyone to their knees.............. :goodvibes
