Really how bad is the weather and crowds in June and August?

We've been going in late August since the kids were in middle school. Crowds in late August have been reasonable. Its been hot - we freeze water bottles in our room and bring in handtowels to drape over necks.

Weather sucks Hot and Humid all the time rains a lot also, Crowds are bad but not terrible

Weather in the upper 90's gets uncomfortable. The open concrete at Epcot becomes a giant frying pan while the queue at Peter Pan is a human toaster. It's still possible to have a good time. But on the hottest days you should bring frozen water bottles into the parks, and spend mid-day at the pool or taking a lovely air-conditioned nap.

We are from Ma as well and went the last full week of August this year. Crowds were not that bad but it was defiantly hot mid day. It had been very humid up here this past summer so it really was not that much different. We bought those cool clothes for your neck and they were life savers!!! We also took breaks at around 1-6 and then went back at night. I think it was much less crowded in late August because a lot of schools are back in session

We usually lose 1-2 evenings due to storms in June. We go in the morning and back to the room in the afternoon for pool time and sometimes back to the park in the evenings. Crowds are heavy but manageable.

Thanks for the input everyone! I am sure I could handle the heat and humidity, but the real question is -can I handle my crabby cranky kids in that weather. I am sure we will have to try it once and see how bad it really is.

Tips....mornings and evenings. Afternoons are for naps or the pool

Know which rides have you spending time indoors. A trip through the Haunted Mansion in air conditioning is a good break from the heat and just the ten minutes can be refreshing.

Know where the water sprays are. Disney has them all over to cool you down in the Summer. We also have one of those horrible Disney water/fan thingies - tacky as all get out, but helpful.

Hydrate. We freeze bottles and bring them into the parks.

Consider temperatures when planning on parks. AK doesn't get a lot of air and feels stifling - its a good park for the cooler or rainier days. Epcot you spend a lot of time indoors - so its the best park for the hottest days.

The water rides are really popular (Splash and Kali), it really isn't worth a really long line just to get wet.

You probably won't want to eat much in the heat, but consider a sit down meal in the air conditioning.

When the kids get too cranky, its time for the pool or a nap or TV in the room. Once everyone understands they leave the park when people are cranky, they don't get cranky until they need to leave :)

we expect it be hot, muggy & crowded during the summer and our expectations are usually exceeded Each time we vow never to return again during that time period. That lasts until the next opportunity for a 'bonus' trip arises lol.

Have found that in June, earlier in the month seems to be the better as to crowds. Many nothern schools don't let out for summer break until 2nd, if not later weeks of June.

For the same reason, late August is better - Southern schools tend to start in late August, and the Northern schools tend to start right around Labor Day (and fewer people want to go on vacation the week before school starts) so if you can go right before Labor Day, it busy, but not impossibly so. Its still HOT and MUGGY.

We're from MA as well. We did August 17-23 in 2013. We did fine. It's much easier to go from Summer in New England temps/humidity to Florida Summer, vs. the one Columbus Day trip we did when Florida was having high 90 temps. Much harder to adjust when the temps are so different from here to there. (That's when we decided if we can survive this trip, we could do a summer trip!) I'd liken Florida August temps to a muggy July heatwave in MA. Do expect the daily afternoon thunderstorms. Crowds weren't too bad in late August, and it's a cheaper pt. season in late August. If you spend a full day at the park, seek out all the air conditioned rides/shows during the heat of the day.

My funny August trip story...we got caught in one of those downpours, and while waiting for a boat to VWL, my oldest said 'We're going to get hypothermia!' No honey, it's still 85 degrees out, you are not going to get hypothermia!

We have done MANY summer trips. We have never been in June but we have in July and Aug. OH yeah...it's hot. You never feel clean and you are always sweating....HOWEVER....a summer trip is very doable. We always do rope drop, we leave after lunch and head to the resort. We go back after dinner or before dinner if we have an ADR in one of the parks. One of our BEST trips was a 14 day trip in July. We had enough time to chill, relax, have non park days, water park days and we loved that trip. You just have to go with the thinking that IT IS VERY HARD to stay all day/night when it is that hot. We get more bang for our bucks at Spring break (yes Easter week) or on our Nov. trips because we can literally stay in a park from open to close and the temps aren't an issue.

I would love for Disney to have a "beat the heat" event in the summer. Reverse the park hours for a few days (or keep them open 24/7...). Open from 9pm to 9am.
The cast members would love that. LOL They have done the one 24 hour day event. My dd was in the college program in Jan. 2012 for 5 months and they had that 24 hour event that year. I know they have done it a couple more times but not sure about this year.
