REALLY dumb question about park restaurants

Say I want to go to LeCellier one evening and somehow by the grace of god someone cancelled their reservation. Do I need to use a park pass to go eat dinner or can I just tell someone at the gate I am going to eat dinner? I think I know the answer, but thought I would ask anyway.

[I saw a thread the other day, where someone said they had heard you can get a special two-hour pass just to eat at a restaurant at the parks. As someone replied, "How could they enforce that? How would they know if the person left after having their meal, or stayed the whole day?" If you want to eat at one of the parks, you have to have a pass.]

I wish that was a possibility, but like the PP said, how would they enforce that? It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

Actually, there *used to* be a thing called a "shopping pass" that would allow one in the park for a short time without charge. I don't recall that it was offered for dining, though.

The shopper had to leave a deposit or credit card imprint for the full price of a one day ticket. If they returned within the time limit, there was no charge. If too late, the credit card was charged or the deposit forfeited.

Some stories were that the shopper also had to show a receipt at exit - in this version, the shopper had to be looking for a specific item, and its availability was verified before entrance was granted.

This feature disappeared quite a while ago - mid-90s, I think.
