Really Bugged (But Has Happy Ending)

I think developer points are making things harder. I also believe the most popular rooms wanted are studios and 2 bedrooms. I have found in the past 1 bedrooms are the most available. DW and a friend are using developer points in May and June. There are school districts and colleges that end in May also. I have found keep trying and would suggest a AP discount at a value for such a short trip. I know I would rather use points than cash also.

We tried to book a 1 bedroom for 4/1-4/9 for a last minute trip. We started calling a few weeks ago and could only get SSR for 4/1-4/3 and OKW for 4/3-4/6. Called every day including today. Nothing else available even with 3" of rain yesterday. :sad2:

OK, so I was wondering, does the offer of developers points, double use year points, and last year points (all those specials they are offering) put the rest of us at a disadvantage (or greater competition) for room reservations? I mean, I have 225 pts a year to use and those factor into the "try to operate at 95% capacity" scheme. But now if someone buys 225 today, they could end up with twice or triple that many points to use this year. If they sold enough under those conditions, doesn't that mean they over-sold the resort (for this year) making it more difficult for me to use the points that I have? And if they did over-sell the resort for this year, some of us won't have the opportunity to use our points. Unless they decide to open the broom closets for us.

I don't know, just asking. :confused3

The problem is working it in with these cheap air flights. I have to make sure the flights are still cheap before I make the ressie with MS.
If you are not borrowing for the ressie, and you are outside of 31 days, you could book first and then check airfare and cancel the ressie if the airfare is not available. I think one of the reasons we're usually successful is that we're always just driving up and don't have the complication of air availability.

Good luck!

As you covered above, the magic extra points makes it harder for everyone. Sometimes Disney lets their corporate greed get in the way of common sense.

Well, I booked last week for April 21st and put both April 20th and April 22nd on hold. Yesterday I checked I got April 22nd.

Considering that Spring Break for schools in the Boston area and Passover... I can't complain.

Not too much experience at the last minute thing. Did book a 1bdrm SSR at 3-4 weeks out for the week after Easter. There were no studios for the whole 4 days (2 days at OKW). I reserved the 1 bdrm and did not waitlist since those point would go into holding with a lesser reservation. There is some promotion going on for SSR (Disney Visa?). Forgot the details but may be adding to the lack of rooms at last minute.

I think the chances may be better just under the 31 day mark. Right after everyone cancels with out penalty.

Late update. Perseverance does pay off. I was finally able to get a studio for 3 nights, checking in on May 18th. The cheap SW air rates were still in effect then also. When I called MS, I first asked for OKW (because of the lower pts.) but all they had there was a 1BR. I then asked them to search all resorts and all they had was SSR (which is fine with us).

This is a totally unexpected/unplanned trip. We've already been to WDW 4 times in the last year and have another trip planned for this Christmas. Plus we're going to HHI the first week of June (two weeks after our SSR trip). We would not even have considered it, if it hadn't been for the cheap air ($128 roundtrip).

We plan on these three days to be very relaxing. We plan on only going to MK and Epcot and spend the rest of the time relaxing around SSR.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone.

Good for you!

I called again to see if I could get this Wednesday added to DS's night at SSR and no, nothing available.

Congrats on hooking the airfare and ressies together...you are going to need the relaxing vacation after all of the stress you endured making it happen!

I believe that the studios are the hardest to get after the 7 month window.
