You might be able to use Ora-gel or Chloraseptic Throat Spray to numb the area a bit first, that might help with the gag reflex. If I was going to do it I would numb it up first and then use a soft tooth brush (maybe a small, toddler size one) to clean the area.
I get this when I don't get enough sleep and I'm about to get sick. I usually use the end of a reach floss handle and push it out.
I've looked at some pictures so I know what they're supposed to look like, but when I look in his mouth I can't see them. His must be really tiny also. I wouldn't have a clue how to pull them open and I'm sure he wouldn't even let me try.
