I found the same thing annoying about the DIS App, so I only used it once or twice. I use the Internet App to view the DISboards because I need to see signatures to recognize folks!

I made my reservation for this trip. Right now i will be in POFQ for 3 nights. Oct 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The Tower of Terror run is the night of the 5th.

You're staying on-site??? Excellent!

I'm avoiding DHS on the 5th.

I was in HS last year the night of the TOT run and it was not bad at all. I was there just to play and didnt know it was the run that night. Dont remember what time the park closed that night.

The plan is i will be there by myself Thursday and Friday nights. My sister who will be running with me will get there Saturday morning and stay the night.

So is this your first Disney run Ed ? I am seriously thinking of doing the Happy Haunts 5 K that night I think it may be good practice for me as I already signed up for the Princess 1/2 in Feb :woohoo: Sounds like a fun night for you and your sister

First one to run in. I have been to a few others to shoot the runs for my DD and friends. Last year DD ran the Princess 5K with her boyfriend. She has not answered me back about running the slipper challenge yet.

I am doing this one to see how i am doing because i have also signed up for the Disney 1/2 in January.

What a terrific way Ed for you to kick off retirement ! Unfortunately the slipper challenge is sold out (Feb there's only one right ?) Let me ask you, how did you know where to put yourself to get pictures of them ?

I gather when you said you shoot the runs that it was more than them being taken at the finish line This is my very first any official run(s) so this would be a great way to memorialize I keep seeing pictures of runners with characters on the course and can't figure out how they did it :confused3 I don't have an I-phone if that's what they did & can't imagine running with a camera in hand !

Any help with answers appreciated

Looking forward to meeting you and possibly your sister in Oct :wave2:

This is what i did for the two 1/2 marathons in January i have gone to.

The first year i went up to watch and take pics my friends gave me the copy of race info. This booklet has a listing of the viewing spots spectators can watch from. There are quite a few locations. I could not get to all of them in time with the crowds and the transportation available so i picked my spots. The second year i went to those spots didnt go to the prior year.

There is a spectator viewing area at the starting line. There were thousands of people there for the start of each corral. Then everyone made the dash to the monorail to ride over to the TTC. There is a viewing spot there. From that point you had to choose the next spot because you can not go to all. Viewing locations beyond that were infront of the Contempoary, Grand Floridian, Poly, and all down Main Street in the MK. Most everyone headed there. The popular spot was catching your runner coming thru the castle and heading down the right side ramp before they headed thru Liberty Square to exit over at Splash Mountain. No spectators could leave Main Street.

After there i headed back to Epcot to catch them running back in to Epcot then walked over to finish line to catch them running under the finish line.

For my DD i caught them running to the finish line from the grandstand on the side of the course. The Princess 5K i shot for my DD and her BF the course stayed at Epcot so their pics were just the start and finish. There was also a nice place to get a nice pic of the 2 with their medals.

As for pics on the course there are the marathon photo guys placed everywhere on the course snapping away at everyone. They have character spots all thru out the course. There were also High School marching bands playing, cheerleaders, pirate ship, first year there was a hotair balloon, Alot of people had there cells or the small point and shoot cameras. Friends they ran with would snap their pics and vice versa. There were also course volunteers at places that would take your pic too.

I am thinking about taking my Nikon D40 and shooting the entire 1/2 marathon from a runners viewpoint.

When i get on my laptop i will post some of the pics i took from the last 2 years. That will probably be tomorrow sometime.

Looking forward to meeting you too Ruthie.

Thanks so much Ed your tips have helped tremendously and cleared a LOT of things up Sounds like the poor spectators running all over the place deserved their own medals So when DH Fred comes home next month I will have to show him how to use my simple camera, it really is simple but he tends to cut heads off :rotfl: He'll be there in Feb I am not paying for a chear squad area or anything the entrance fees and shoes outfit alone :scared:

Would lLove to see your pictures I'm sure everyone else here too would

Like your idea of running and taking pictures from a runners point of view, it will either give me more confidence to see them or scare the heck out of me :)

I did the cheer squad the first year and the cost was a bit much. I would not do it again. The place that you could get to for pics was right next those that didnt get the package. Last year i stood next to the cheer area for the full marathon and got a great pics.

I do not know where the 5K course for the TOT weekend is going to be. The Princess 1/2 should follow the same as the Disney 1/2. Those will be the pics i post.

A close friend that ran the Goofy Challange went to her corral a couple of hours early so she was right on the starting line for the start. That made is very easy to find her for the beginning pics.

When you run your 1/2 get to the left side edge of forward motion when you go to your corral (as long as thay are using the same course). It will make it easier for DH to find you and snap a few pics. I was talking to a few people while waiting for the different corrals to start. One who was i think from Virginia was watching for her husband. She found him so i snapped a few pics and emailed them to her.

There was one spot there i heard quite a few comments about creating a mental challenge. When the runners where heading from MK back to Epcot down World Dr there is a long sweeping cloverleaf accending to the bridge to cross back over World. Dr. It is about mile 11. Have a couple of pics from the monorail so you will see what i am talking about.

Again Ed this is tremendous to hear all of this I would not have a clue without your insight Even though I have joined several threads re-the 1/2 no one is discussing this angle of pictures and this is extremely important to me, I have NO desire to discuss a tu-tu :rotfl: you will not catch me dead in one !

You can take this whole conversation and the posting of the pictures over to my ptrs in the signature line if you wouldn't mind so we can get back to the Oct Dismeet planning here ..most of the followers here jump over to mine when they can & the girls on mine that are not a part of our DisMeet would love to see them too I'm sure Whatever works for you is fine I am just so appreciative to have the opportunity to pick your brains about all this :cheer2: and I am getting PUMPED !!

It's Sunday here.
