Real Life game/fun: Calling for a DisBoard Gamers DisMeet....first week Oct 2013

Very good question. When are you thinking of being there? From the Monday to Friday? I can overlap around that time.

Still too early to book airfares but school hols is the week before and that week. DS is supposed to be back at school on the Monday; but I need to talk to his teacher next year and see if we can squeeze an extra week.

I would be able to begin my trip any time, including that weekend before. In the past, I've met with Disboard friends for specific events during the time our stays overlapped.

I intend to book a 1 bedroom that will have a kitchen, we've talked about a cookout, and BCV does have a charcoal grill by the villa pool. Would something like that be a good way to begin the meet? I would come at least the day before to insure that we have the villa to gather in.

DH and I still need to talk. I want to stay at Universal for 2 nights prior to WDW. And I was thinking about 6 or 7 nights but it will depend on where else we have on the travel agenda and whether we can keep the niceties of 'asking' the teacher for the extra week. I think I was thinking 3.5 weeks; to factor in travel time.

The cook out sounds great. I'm easy with whenever; it just depends on when everyone else is pitching up.

OK...I'm going to ask my DH to come after the meet. He and I will most likely travel to the Great Smokey Mountain NP and Dollywood afterwards. It's the Harvest, Gospel Music Festival in that area in October.

:rotfl2: I'm having a feeling of deja vu. Just on another thread with some Aussies about how I manage to justify "next times" to DH. :thumbsup2

I have absolutely no idea what my dates will be, especially considering that I'm really hoping I'll be there for on the DCP :lmao:

Our DGC will be going to their first Star Wars Weekend next weekend. We will be at BCV, and we've agreed to care for the DGC while their parents celebrate their own birthdays with dinner at Le Cellier on Saturday.

I'll be solo at AKV during that next week, then we all come together for a weekend at VB.:goodvibes

I fully expected to work this past spring, and that was my "end of school" get away. I saw no reason to cancel it, even if I wasn't working.:rotfl2: I won't be booking anything like that next year.:goodvibes We'll be away on our "DH retirement, our 45th wedding anniversary transatlantic/Med cruises!"

The October Disboard Gamers meet will be my next DVC stay after the cruise, so planning wise, it is very nearly the time to book! (November this year!)

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. I've learned that both DS's make very different hamburgers, and neither is like the ones that they grew up with! I'm still thinking hamburgers for the cookout, or veggie burgers, but what do the rest of you associate with a "cookout?"

To the Aussie, a "cookout" is a BBQ.

We do steaks, lamb chops, chicken, sausages, fish and grill vegies on the BBQ. We also do skewers or kebabs on the BBQ.

DH doesn't eat meat; so we normally get a big mushroom and grill it on the BBQ with the gill side down first. When we turn it over for the cap, I put slices of cheese (feta or even haloumi) on the gills and then top with pesto just before serving.

We have even grilled haloumi cheese on the BBQ.

So much more than I! I've not heard of haloumi cheese. I'll look it up!

Haloumi is Greek/Cypriot cheese made from goat's milk. It doesn't seem to melt the way the other cheeses do and holds quite a firm shape.

It is quite a popular dish in greek cuisine, pan fried with a squeeze of lemon juice over it. We love it!

That's what I read!:goodvibes

I will look! My guess is that at least one will have it.
