I feel sorry for the girls too. But they committed a crime. Lauryn Hill (R&B Grammy winner) was a single mom of 6 and she was sent to prison last year for 90 days because she didn't pay her taxes. I think Tre will have to serve some time, maybe a few months, then spend the rest of her sentence on house arrest. Juicy will probably get years.

I have a feeling that Teresa is going to just get probation because of the children.
I think that is the reason they are doing the plea deal, to keep her out of jail.
THE KIDS ARE HER GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD.

Plenty of parents go to jail for their crimes. Kids are not necessarily a "get out jail free card." I'm sure they took the plea deal hoping for a lighter sentence but my guess is there will be some jail time involved.

If they were truly thinking of the well being of their kids they wouldn't have committed these crimes in the first place.

they have family that can care for the kids. I personally think it would be a tremendous life lesson for those girls to see that when you admittedly lie, steal and cheat there are consequences.

Except that the girls won't see that. Their parents are innocent and are being persecuted because they're wealthy and everyone is jealous. Tre and Joe only settled because they were forced into it. At least that's what the girls will be told.

I feel like the kids are going to grow up and turn into Teresa's. That's terrifying.

What?! I loved her!

Sister Act 2 anyone?!?!

They obviously weren't thinking about their kids when they committed the crimes. But now that they got caught its all about the kids. Those girls would be so much better off without them and with someone who will actually be a parent to them and not try to be the cool mom and be their friend!!!!

But you have to keep in mind that these are white collar crimes, not violent crimes so there is much more leeway for house arrest and parole.
I mean if she goes to jail, it will probably be "country club" jail like Martha Stewart went to.

Honestly I think it should be like that to a point. What's the point of putting someone like Teresa in with violent people? She'll either end up learning to be violent herself to survive or (which is more likely) be eaten alive in there.
Note I'm not saying she shouldn't be punished or even have a little jail time. It's just sending her to do hard time for 3ish years really does nothing to help. Either it will harden her and create a potentially more dangerous criminal or it will cause her to be abused in horrible ways.

Last night on one of those entertainment shows they were saying restitution is going to have to be made. I think she will get the house arrest/probation so that she can continue to work and pay back the debts.
Juicy Joe is probably going bye bye for a bit.
Also, this is all being taped for the show, so she is still being paid. Which helps with the restitution situation.

ETA: I worked in a bank where a man was convicted of fraud against the bank, he was incarcerated and paying back the bank for the monies owed. Whatever work he was doing while in jail the funds were being sent to the bank and then were sparse. I want to say the check was like $30 a month. So she is much more lucrative on the outside.

I'm in the minority but for years, people have said Teresa is as dumb as a box of rocks but now everyone says she helped in all of this. My personal opinion is that Joe handed Teresa the papers to sign. Not saying that she has no responsibility for signing them, she does. I don't see any good in sending her away as she can make more money to repay on the outside with an ankle bracelet. She was the one stepping up and doing the earning lately. As a tax payer, I'd rather her go out and make money to repay then to sit in prison.

I also think this is backfiring on that lawyer that was kicked out of Melissa's party and one of the Kim's that started all of this. They wanted on the show but as the world is odd, I think this will make Teresa more interesting and keep her on the show and they will be the odd ones out.

Actually I think that was one of the defenses Teresa's team floated at the beginning of the case, that she was an "innocent spouse" and just signed whatever Joe told her to. Of course, this wouldn't fly since she was smart enough to make book deals, tv deals, endorsement deals, be on Celebrity Apprentice, etc.
That's interesting if she will still be on the show! I thought she was done but is it true this is all being filmed for the show??
I am wondering if Joe will be deported back to Italy!

her current reported net worth is over 7 million dollars, and she earns over $600,000 per season for housewives. at this point the court has ordered $200,000 paid in full on or before the sentencing date. at sentencing the total amount of fines will be determined.

I think Teresa can easily pay this off and still do time-and it would be interesting to know how the couple's assets and business dealings are structured. only joe pled to the tax evasion, so all of those fines could be tied to a business Teresa has no legal ties to (or responsibility for). Teresa is no dumb bunny-she may well have formed a corporation long ago that separates and protects her individual earnings and assets (I know women who do this).

So you are saying that white collar crimes don't deserve actual prison time? I can't imagine that the prosecution would allow a plea deal that wouldn't mandate some sort of jail time, based on the number of counts and evidence they had against the couple. My guess is both of them will go to jail, him longer than her. I also don't see their marriage lasting through all of this.

There was a local case a few years ago where a 80 year old man defrauded people in a Ponzi scheme that totaled $25 million dollars. His secretary knew of it, but never turned him in or bothered to file taxes herself for 18 years. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison (which he is currently serving) and she took a plea deal and she also served prison time and was ordered to be liable for the $25 million. She's obviously not capable of paying it back.

As for Teresa, house arrest in her house isn't really awful for her, is it?

Of course that's NOT what I am saying. MY personal feelings are that they pled guilty to possibly spare jail time for her for the sake of her children.
I have no idea what the judge is going to do.
My statement was that she did not commit a violent crime therefore she stands a good chance of getting house arrest and parole. If she does receive jail time it will be in a prison like Martha Stewart went to a "country club" jail.
Believe me Teresa is not one of my favorite people. I think what they did is disgusting and she would deserve to go to jail.
I will not be sad for her if she does. I will feel awful for her children.

I am from a huge law enforcement family, In my book any one who does what she did deserves jail time.

It's the end of an era: The bankruptcy trustee overseeing Joe and Teresa Giudice's finances has submitted his final report, which says the couple only satisfied $7,500 of their debts and still owe $13.4 million to their creditors, who can once again pursue the couple for repayment.

That was on hold while the case winded its way through the bankruptcy system — and while the Giudices fought a massive federal indictment alleging, among other things, bankruptcy fraud. (They pleaded guilty in March to several counts of financial fraud.)

The "Real Housewives of New Jersey" couple filed for bankruptcy in 2010, blaming the recession's impact on Joe Giudice's construction business, but when John Sywilok, their court-appointed trustee, alleged that the couple had hid assets and income, Joe Giudice in 2011 invoked the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination and agreed to a settlement in which the court denied discharge of his debts. His wife later followed suit.

Since then, Sywilok has sought to satisfy creditors via the Giudices' homes and possessions, but they were mostly financed to the hilt. According to the final report, Sywilok had been able to secure $15,000 from the couple instead of seizing and selling off their own household goods and furnishings, but most of that went toward bankruptcy administrative fees.

The couple's outstanding debts include $5.4 million to Wachovia, $1.7 million to the Community Bank of Bergen County, $1.3 million to Dime Savings Bank, more than $500,000 to the New Jersey Division of Taxation, and more than $386,000 to the Internal Revenue Service, according to the report.

"They are going to owe whatever they owed, as if they had not fought bankruptcy," says Ronald LeVine, a Hackensack bankruptcy attorney unconnected with the case. "They're completely stuck with their debt."

The couple's financial fraud case appeared to be triggered by the 2009 bankruptcy filing, although in addition to bankruptcy fraud, federal prosecutors alleged the couple also defrauded banks in order to obtain mortgages. They will be sentenced July 8. Joe Giudice faces a recommended sentence of 37 to 46 months, while Teresa Giudice faces up to 27 months.

"It was a terrible decision to file for bankruptcy," LeVine says. "They might have gotten away under the radar otherwise."

In The Clear! Fraud Charges Against Teresa Giudice’s Husband Joe DISMISSED – How Lucky Can They Get?

Just one week after Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice‘s was dismissed as a defendant in a fraud lawsuit filed by former business partner, Joe Mastropole, RadarOnline.com has learned that the balance of lawsuit against husband, Joe, was also thrown out, and the couple is now off the hook entirely!

The lawsuit alleged that Joe forged Mastropole’s signature on mortgage documents for an apartment building they owned together. Mastropole’s name was taken off the mortgage when Joe refinanced the property, but Joe didn’t ever give him the $260,000 he was owed, according to the lawsuit.

Now, Judge Kenneth Slowmienski of the Superior court in New Jersey has dismissed the case in its entirety.

“This is a HUGE victory for the Giudice family and for their ongoing criminal case that is taking new turns by the day,” the couple’s legal coach and crisis manager, Wendy Feldman told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Feldman added that the reality stars’ lawyer, Michael De Marco, prevailed on a very important piece of the puzzle, as Mastropole had been seeking civil and punitive damages.

But the Giudices are not in the clear yet. Teresa still could be facing 27 months in prison, while her husband Joe could get 46 months behind bars after pleading guilty to nine counts of mail, wire, bank and bankruptcy fraud that were brought against them in March.

As Radar has reported, Giudice’s looming sentencing hearing will likely delay the premiere for the upcoming season of the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

“Teresa’s legal team absolutely won’t let her do any interviews before the sentencing hearing because it could impact her sentence,” an insider said. “If Teresa was out doing press interviews promoting RHONJ before the July 8 sentencing, it would look like she wasn’t taking the process seriously, which she definitely is. After the sentence is handed down, it’s expected Bravo will officially give Season Six a premiere date.”

Until the sentencing hearing, “Teresa and Joe will be keeping a very low profile… They are getting ready for the July sentencing date, and just spending time with their family,” the source added. “Family is everything to Teresa and she is trying to keep things as normal as possible for her daughters.”
