Ok, I need some help & I know my fellow Disers will have the answer. I recently listed my house with a realtor (large company). The person I'm working with sent me an email regarding a request for a showing. She's away in Vegas & wants me to show the house to a prospective buyer. Is this normal??? I thought I wasn't supposed to be home when they show the house. Also, why am I paying her a commission if I'm doing all the work? If anyone can enlighten me, I'd appreciate it. I'm desperately trying to avoid insanity. Thanks!

LOL, is she my SIL? Sounds familiar.

No, she's getting paid, she does the work. If she's on vacation, she should have a co-worker covering for her. Not the homeowner. That's my opinion.

Just another reason why we will never be using SIL again.

I would never ask my clients to show their property themselves. Isn't there anyone else from her office that can show the property? Who is representing these buyers? It seems strange to me, especially if she is an agent with a large firm.

OK, normally the buyer's agent comes in with the prospective buyer.

If she wants you to show it, it means that she is playing "buyer's agent" with these clients. So double duty. If she sells it to them she gets commission on selling and buying.

So what do you do? You could call the agency and tell them that you want an agent at the house. You are not comfortable with the situation.

My guess is that they have someone "on call" just for that purpose. Check into it first.

Absolutely not. As a licensed realtor, that is something I would never do. In those circumstances, I have another realtor at my company show the home. In most cases, that also means I share my commission if the showing results in sale. Sounds to me like she is trying to avoid sharing her commission.

Tell her you are not available to show the home. That is what you are paying her for. She needs to find someone in her office to show it.

Thank you all for your quick responses - I really thought I was losing it when I
read her request for me to show it. I'm sending her an email that I'd prefer a realtor show it. Thank you.

Good for you. You know, she was very unprofessional. And as the PP said, she is trying to keep the commission to herself should this be the people that buy it.

If she has another relator show it she has to buck up part of her commission if it sells.
