We are very close to taking the plunge to be DVC members. :rotfl:

I have been reading post after post on here and it has been very helpful. We are going to buy SSR through resales. We are now deciding how many points.

One question I have is if we want to add on say 25 points in the future...we decide to go through Disney if there aren't any resales with our UY.....can we get the same UY adding on through Disney?:confused3

Also.....is there any year that goes by that any of you don't use 100% of your points (banked, borrowed or transfered points)? It almost seems impossible to plan it out that you could use every one of your points. I hope this question makes sense.:guilty:

As I said.. I believe we are going to buy SSR. It looks absolutely beautiful. But I am heart broken between SSR and OKW. My wife says she would be happy with either. We have not stayed at either before....any thoughts would be great.:thumbsup2

Sorry for so many questions!:goodvibes
Thanks!

Well we bought 150 point resale at SSR to start also. We REALLY liked the extra years. Unless you want a Grand Villa it doesn't really matter if you own SSR or OKW IMO. You can get into either alot of the time. So why not get the extra years.

When add on from disney you HAVE to get the same UY. They won't sell you anything else. 25-49 point add on you have to pay in full. 50 or more can be financed.

We just bought a couple of months ago and already add another 150 points at AKV so I can't say if we have any points left over but I think if you plan ahead you should be able to have time to bank them if you aren't going to use them. But you really need to sit down and put a little thought into it at first. I'm sure once you owned a few years it becomes pretty easy. We already have our Jan 2008 NYE trip planned. So like I said as long as we plan ahead we should be fine. Good luck.

We just recently purchased 175 points at SSR so I've also wondered if there would be times I would lose points due to non-use. The conclusion I came to is yes, we will probably lose some points along the way, but in the end it did not affect my decision. I broke our purchase down to an estimated yearly cost (Purchase price + est. avg. maint. fees) and determined that for the way we like to travel (2 BR w/kitchen & about 9-10 days), DVC is an excellent value if we travel every other year. It didn't matter if we lose some points along the way.

We have yet to "go home" so have not stayed at any DVC but decided to buy SSR due to: F&F price (now over), it is newer with more years on the contract and bathroom is accessible from LR. At OKW, some of the older buildings have access to the bathrooms only through the bedrooms, not to the LR. The rooms are larger at OKW and the price cheaper, but I wanted more years.

I PMed you with some helpful information.

There are set uys, one should match yours.

This is why the rent/trade board is so busy.

OKW rooms 1/3 larger then any other resort, SSR gives you 12 more years then OKW. OKW is cheaper to buy on resale, so 12 years, or cheaper.

We couldn't take it any longer! :rotfl: We just completed the deal and bought 150 for SSR! We decided not to go resale after a few PM from neighbors on the board. It was well worth the extra $$$$ to go through Disney.

I couldn't believe how easy it was. After they answered a few of my questions it only took 5 minutes and we were good to go. They didn't have any "special" incentives such as F&F but we did get the standard promo of $91 a point ($10 off a pt.). BUT we have 2006 points and don't have to pay MF on those. So we will be going on our first "trip home" on points we didn't even realize we would get. :goodvibes

Our guide even said we can book our first trip this week!

Thanks for the advice neighbors! I can't wait to return to our dream home!!!!

The biggest things that helped me to decide to not go resale was most, not all, contracts that are resale have the currect UY points stripped from the contracts. The seller already went on a vacation with those points. I might possibility buy something that I can' sue right away. Paying the extra $$ for closing costs through resale. Felt better about the financing through Disney. Lastly we wanted to book our next trip pretty quickly. We were able to book in two days after paying our down payment after the initial call with our guide. We didn't even close for a few weeks later and still had our trip booked. Lastly I didn't feel too good about the closing process through a resale. I felt it didn't fit our timeline. It seemed like it was going to take quite a bit longer than Disney. Lastly we were at the point that if we took the chance with resale and Disney excercised ROFR we would have missed out on the incentives. It just wasn't a chance I wanted to risk. I got 06 UY points to use and didn't have MF on those points also.

The time and effort I had to put in Disney to close the deal made the few $$ worth the price.

Congrats and welcome home! Went through the same mental gyrations last year and also bought SSR with Dec 2006 use year because we had a vacation to book immediately (a 2BR at BCV at the 7 month window--If you want a resort not your home resort, book right at the 7 month window if possible). Anyway, you made a great decision; we just completed our trip to BCV and I am more sold than ever on DVC. We have a family of 8 and the 2BR villas are great for us. We like staying on-site, its part of the experience for us, and it was nice not to "rent" points. You won't regret the investment.

Congratulations fellow hoosier! We joined DVC in 2002 via telesales direct through Disney with 150 points at VWL. And we've added on direct through Disney with as small as 25 points at a time. We presently own at BWV, VWL, and SSR (I loved it after staying in the Grandstand section). Having said that, I adore OKW also. I like them all - what's neat about DVC is the flexibility and each DVC resort feels like a different vacation in its own way. :)

WELCOME HOME!!! I am sure you will love it and SSR gives you the extra years. We are staying at SSR right now and next week will be OKW so as you see, even though you own SSR, you can still enjoy OKW if you wish.

:cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS & WELCOME HOME!! :cheer2:

You made the right decision. You will NOT regret it!
