Reading Thread/Goals for 2026

5/30 = Disney Adults: Exploring (And Falling in Love With) a Magical Subculture by AJ Wolfe - 2.5/5

Being a Disney adult myself of a sort, I was intrigued to read this to see what insights it could provide. And unfortunately I'm not sure it provided many. The first part was fairly interesting but the rest just seemed to be a general overview of what Disney was up to and I can't say I learnt very much.

8/75 Bluebird Day by Megan Tady. This was perfect for winter and especially with the Olympics going on, as the main characters are former Olympic skiers. I really enjoyed this read, it wasn't too heavy or too light and engaging enough I wanted to finish.

9/75 The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. This will likely be my favorite book of the year. I used Chirp to purchase the audio version for $3.99 and it was worth every penny and then some. I've read many people say the audio version is the best because of so many different character voices, and I think I would have to agree. I was sad when this ended!

Here's an example of how different people react differently to books. I also read The Correspondent, gave it 3 stars, and couldn't understand why there was a waiting list for it. Meanwhile, I'm sure that some books I've raved about have left some people with "Someone actually liked this?"

Absolutely! It is what makes the world go round. And keeps a wide variety in authors in business :) Did you read the actual book or do the audio version? Honestly I don't know that I would enjoy the written version at all. The audio has all the characters in different voices which makes it entertaining.

Actually, I read the book. I've never done any audio books. After I read your review, however, I was tempted to try my first one.

#1/25 The Names by Florence Knapp
In the wake of a catastrophic storm, Cora sets off with her nine-year-old daughter, Maia, to register the birth of her son. Her husband, Gordon, respected in the community but a controlling presence at home, intends for her to follow a long-standing family tradition and name the baby after him. But when faced with the decision, Cora hesitates....
Spanning thirty-five years, what follows are three alternate and alternating versions of their lives, shaped by Cora's last-minute choice of name.
Was just ok for me.

#2/25 Beneath His Silence by Hannah Linder
Second daughter of a baron—and a little on the mischievous side—Ella Pemberton is no governess. But the pretense is a necessity if she ever wishes to get inside of Wyckhorn Manor and attain the truth. Exposing the man who killed her sister is all that matters.
I enjoyed this one. Would read more by this author.

#5 Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner. This is the first book in have read by this author. It was pretty good. I will read another by her.
I love Lisa Gardner! One of my top favorite authors.
The FBI Profiler series & the D.D. Warren series are my favorites.
Before She Disappeared is the first in the Frankie? series which was good but not as good as the other series.
She also writes romance novels under a different name but I have not read any of those.
