Reading Thread/Goals for 2025

50/50 “Annie’s Recipe” by Lisa Jones Baker….is similar to the previous book, deciding to stay Amish or not.4/5

13/20 - Barbara Kingsolver, "Demon Copperhead" - 5/5
Started this one on audiobook (over 20 hours!) and finished reading it on my recent trip. Great book, but man does this kid go through some things. Just when you think it is as bad as it can get, you turn the page and, whelp, that got worse. I liked it though, great writing.

16. Summer land by Elin Hilderbrand. One of her older ones. It was good-not one of my faves. Not sure why, but it was mindless and what I needed.

#27 - The Boys by Ron Howard and Clint Howard
Genre - Memoir

This is my book clubs pick for this month. I loved, loved, loved reading it!

30/30 - The Boys by Ron Howard and Clint Howard

I decided to read this book based on your positive review. I really enjoyed it, too. It looks like it was written during the pandemic, as so many books were.

19/25 - Targeted Montana Witness by Sharon Dunn. Former Nurse who witnessed murder of her boyfriend in NJ is relocated to MN. Local sheriff protects her from attempts on their lives after her location is discovered. They have a hea.

20/25 - Tide and Tails Mysteries Festival of Fins and Fatalities by Lottie Elton
Former detective and marine biologist returns home to help her brother at a local seafood festival. A local business owner is murdered and Reenie discovers the killers identity. Meh.

21/25 - Tangled Up In Tinsel by Jessie Gussman
Local decorator takes last minute Christmas decoration job for wealthy client. Clients wealthier brother helps her and they instantly hit it off. Too short and romance too fast.

22/25 - An Evergreen Christmas by Cara Wilder
Wealthy divorcee is stranded in quaint town as she figures her next life plans. She meets local residents and helps the community with Thanksgiving and Christmas events. She develops a relationship with local lawyer and decides to stay. They have a hea. It was ok but a little too sickly sweet.

23/25 - Apple Pie and Trouble by Amber Crewes
Former actress moves to small town to open bakery near her retired friend. A local businessman is found dead and she is accused. Meghan digs for clues until she finds the true killer. She develops a relationship with local detective. It was ok.

24/25 - Cupcake Crime at Maplewood Bakery: Where the Cupcakes are Sweet and The Motives Are Sticky by Valerie Loyer
Mia opens local bakery and during a local festival the judge is found dead holding her cupcake. Her business is failing and she works to clear her name with friends help. Many clues lead to the assailant. It was ok.

#30 - The Last Sword Maker (first book in the Course of Empire series) by Brian Nelson
Genre - Thriller

This is a high paced thriller about a high tech arms race that actually could be a vision of the future of warfare. I give it a 4/5.

#31 - Beyond the Shadow of War (2nd book in the War series) by Diane Moody
Genre - Historical

I've enjoyed this series so far.

51/50….so, I will try for 70 now
51/70…”My Reading Life” by Pat Conroy. I’ve read a book by him that I did enjoy and thought this would be an interesting read, and it was. He was extremely well read, and very forthcoming about his life. 3.5/5

#33 - Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez - This book follows Samantha and Xavier, who fall in love despite Samantha's impending move to California to care for her mother with dementia and their subsequent long-distance relationship.

My rating...eh. This one took me a really, really long time to read and it was pretty short. I enjoyed Just for the Summer a lot more.

I'm currently listening to "Project Hail Mary" which I am really enjoying. I an excited for the movie to come out in March.

#21/25 The Operator by Gretchen Berg
Nobody knows the people of Wooster, Ohio, better than switchboard operator Vivian Dalton. She calls it intuition. Her teenage daughter, Charlotte, calls it eavesdropping.

Vivian and the other women who work at Bell on East Liberty Street connect lines and lives. They aren’t supposed to listen in on conversations, but they do, and they all have opinions on what they hear―especially Vivian.

Then, one cold December night, Vivian listens in on a call between that snob Betty Miller and someone whose voice she can’t quite place and hears something shocking. Betty Miller’s mystery friend has news that, if true, will shatter Vivian’s tidy life in Wooster, humiliating her and making her the laughingstock of the town.

Vivian may be mortified, but she isn’t going to take this lying down. She’s going to get to the bottom of that rumor—get into it, get under it, poke around in the corners. Find every last bit. Vivian wants the truth, no matter how painful it may be.

But as Vivian is about to be reminded, in a small town like Wooster, one secret usually leads to another. . . .

Just ok, a bit long & drawn out.
