Poly - Hope you have a great time. Even if you don't do a trip report, please let us know how your trip went and share some pics!

There are lots of Poly lovers here. I haven't had the pleasure of staying there yet, but hope to some day . . .

Hi just checking in. STILL not finished packing. I have a huge list of carp to get done before Friday, and then finish the last minute packing stuff for the flight out on Monday. OMG, I'm a little stressed!!

:scared:

Steph. hope you and your family have a fablous trip. Seems like forever since the 7 stitches of Christmas....

Hey, I remember that face! Yeah, right before he ran into my van and pushed me off the road. He definitely needed to learn the rules of the road!

Morning everyone,

Moo -- cute picture as always.

poly- Bad reindeer for running into your van. So your off the WDW soon too!!!

Pumba should be in the sky now. Hope she has good weather. Is is really mild here today the ground is wet from overnight but I will take this over snow anyday.

This would have been a great shopping day but I have DS home sick today. He was throwing up in the middle of the night. He really wanted to go to school because the Christmas concert is tonight. His class is doing a short skit of the Grinch and he is Max the dog. How bad would it look if he is fine by tonight and I let him do the concert? The school said there have been 10 out of his class in the past week.

DD is singing All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth. She is really excited too. She had to have bath last night and set her Christmas dress out to wear, even went to bed early saying tomorrow was a big day.

Sorry that got long winded.....

That was far from long winded! Love hearing about everyone's children.
My girls are having finals this week. The oldest- a soph- commutes and will finish Friday evening; the youngest- a frosh- lives on campus and finishes tomorrow evening. She'll be bringing lots of her stuff home for break and I've no idea where we're going to put it.
I am no where ready for this trip or Christmas. I need a swift kick to get me moving.

Poly-- So your kids are going with you to the WDW.

I hope my kids decide to go to college or university. DD loves school. DS not so much. He doesn't reliaze yet that college is optional. :lmao: Well really it isn't he is going rather he likes it or not. He gets good grades too.

He wanted to go to school after lunch and against my better judgement I let him go. He didn't want anyone taking his part in the play. Which the concert is tonight. He hasn't eaten anything all day either, drank a little gingerale which didn't stay down either. Bad mom I am.

I am not ready for Christmas either. A few gifts to get. One to find where I hid it, and a lot of wrapping to do. Plus a thousand cookies to bake. :lmao: Don't know how I got into baking cookies for everyone in the family but they all look forward to them and the kids love to help. They are my taste testers of course.

The girls have no choice in the matter- it's my birthday,we bought them APs and it is family time. My husband works 7 nights a week and rarely gets time off. We're paying for their schooling and it is not cheap- family trips are the least they can do . The oldest wants to go, the youngest wants to catch up with her friends who have scattered to schools across the country and will be on break. She'll have a good time when we're away- she just enjoys giving me a hard time.
I can understand your son wanting to go to school. I hope he is okay while there and can take part tonight. Why is it our children always get sick before big moments? I'll keep him in my thoughts today:)

Well we made it though the Christmas concert without any problems. Of course we video taped it for them to watch.

Kids are so cute to watch, we had some that said watch me and stood out in front of everyone. Some sang louder, some were nervous and swayed back and forth. Some picked their nose, I'm sure their parents were proud :rotfl2:

Really quiet here tonight. I know we were way back on pages I used my subscriptions to find the thread it was so far back. I know it is only going to get worse with the people left here going to WDW soon. Sad.

Well off to get my kids to bed they were all pumped up after the concert we let them stay up extra half hour.

Ok I have that monkey off my back... The Drinking The Kool-Aid TR is finished!!! YAY!!!

Now, I can put that behind me and finish my packing!!

:rotfl2:

WOW, I thought someone had killed the tread, LOL.

Thanks NAB and Steph for breaking the spell!

We had our annual white elephant gift exchange today at work, and something really funny happened. A single guy picked a gift that was chocolate and a Lowe's gift certificate. He said he is not a home owner, and has no need for Lowe's. Someone stole it, of course.
So then picks another box, a big one, and said, wow, this is heavy. Goes to open it, and it's filled with those styrofoam balls. He goes digging in it and says, wow, it's COLD! He feels around, and goes, "I think its a turkey!"
Sure enough, he pulled it out and it was, wrapped in alu foil, I'd say probably 12 or 15 pounds. He said he NEVER even turned the stove on in his apt.
Anyway, it was hilarious, guess you had to be there..... Unfortunately, nobody stole it from him, so he was stuck with it.

The gift giver admitted to her hubby complaining that the turkey was taking up too much room in the freezer, so she decided to gift it, LO!

I picked on my first pick a bottle of wine (which was stolen), second pick I got THREE bottles of wine (stolen again!), third pick a wine gift basket with candies and sausage etc.

Got lucky this year, last year I ended up with some massage beads I threw away.

Hope everyone is well, busy season of the year I guess.

Steph, I'm off to read your trippie!!

Congrats on finishing your trippie, Steph! Now I need to go read it.

Hope your packing is going smoothly. I'm about ready to start throwing a few things I won't be wearing the next couple of weeks into my suitcase.

Nab - Glad your son made it through his program tonight. What kind of cookies are on your agenda for tomorrow?

Went out to dinner with my cousin tonight (the lucky one who just retired) and picked up a few more Christmas gifts at the mall afterward.

hi Marita and Moo

A turkey that is a real weird gift. When I worked the Chicken place they gave us soft cooler with a case a beer in it. We were surprised because some of the workers weren't even of drinking age. I gave mine to my dad.

Marita -- did you end up with wine then?

Moo-- Molasses cookies. These are my hubby's and oldest brothers favourite.

Steph-- Great final installement. Done just in time. Hope you have a great trip with lots of pixie dust again.

Hi Nab, yes, I got a wine gift basket with all the other goodies.

Forgot to say earlier, glad your DS made his play. That would have been a real bummer. That just reminded me now, when I was in Kindergarten ( a mere 15 years ago :lmao: ), I was supposed to play something involving one of those old milkcans (don't ask me what!), But I had practiced standing on a chair for days in front of my mom. On the day, I was sick, but I insisted on going anyway, and somebody else was going to take my part!!!!!!!

I think I did it, but im not really sure anymore, LOL, I just remember the trauma of it all.

Mmmmm, molasses cookies. Do you make an indent and put jam in them, Nab? My Grandma's neighbor made them that way with raspberry jam. When I finally got the recipe back when I was in college, I was shocked to learn that they were made with lard. They just weren't the same made with Crisco for some reason.

I don't know why our office calls it a purple elephant exchange. Just to be different, I guess! Our game is similar to this. The person who is the last to pick can "steal" the best gift because we don't "freeze" the stealing after three steals.

White elephant gift exchange

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The white elephant gift exchange is a popular party game played during the winter holiday season in the United States. The objective of the game is for guests of a party to each contribute one gift to the game, and ultimately each guest walks away with one gift from the game. Along the way is a random drawing to determine the order in which players get to unwrap gifts or "steal" previously opened gifts.

Rules

Items needed

1. While it is not mandatory, generally a maximum value is agreed upon for the gifts involved; e.g., all gifts should be valued no more than $20. It is recommended to remind people that they should choose to bring a gift that they themselves wouldn't mind receiving.

2. Participants bring their gifts wrapped or sealed in a gift bag, and often take care to hide the identity of the giver.

3. Gifts are placed in a designated area.

4. Participants draw numbers to see who goes first, second, etc.

White Elephant Gift Exchange

How to Play

1. The guest who has drawn #1 goes first. He/she chooses a gift from the gift pile, opens the gift for all to see, and keeps it for the time being.

2. The guest who has drawn #2 goes next. He/she can either choose to take an unopened gift from the gift pile or to "steal" a gift from any previous gift-opener.

3. If a gift is "stolen" from a previous gift-opener, he or she may either open an unopened present from the gift pile, or "steal" another guest's opened gift. Turns resume when all guests who have taken their turn possess an open gift.

4. After all turns have been taken, the person who has drawn #1 has the option of taking one more turn (stealing any gift) since they had the disadvantage of not knowing what any of the now-opened presents were in the beginning.

ADDITIONAL RULE: A gift is considered "FROZEN" once it has been "stolen" three times, and, once frozen, it becomes unavailable to the other guests---it then belongs to whoever possesses it at that time, and cannot be stolen again. If someone has donated a gift that stands out among the rest, this prevents the game from revolving entirely around that gift.

Origin

The name "white elephant" loosely refers to an old tradition of giving gift items consisting of old trinkets, knick-knacks, or unwanted gifts from previous years (also known as "regifting"). It originates from an old Burmese cultural reference to the value of an albino elephant, which is considered sacred and must be well taken care of, despite the financial burden that it may bring to its owner.

Trivia

This game was featured in the Season 2 episode of The Office titled Christmas Party. It was referred to as "Yankee Swap."
