Terrible story.

I think the best lesson to get is that it is imperative to report any untoward behaviour by ANYONE immediately.

Don't forget, you may not be the only victim!

I think in any situation like this one the best thing to do would be let the proper authorities know ASAP. Like Jim said , you may not be the only victim. I do hate that it happened to the cruiser.

Very scary!
Once when we sailed on RCCL, we met twin sisters who sail on one of the RCCL ships almost as much as we sail on Disney. One was never married and one was divorced, and they told us they had...shall we say "close" relationships with some of the crew members. I remember thinking that those crew members were playing with fire if that was the truth (I think it was, as we saw them with some of the servers in Mexico). Disney (and hopefully the other cruise lines) has very strict rules that protect both the guests and the crew.

This could happen on any cruise line - even Disney. All cruiselines do their best to screen potential crew members. No matter how careful the screening, it is always possible for someone to slip through.

The key here is to report it right away. She could have put an end to this much faster, but reporting it sooner.

Any cruise line we do what Princess did, once they were notified. No cruiseline on the planet would tolerate this behaviour from its crew.

So true, it could happen on disney even, but somehow I feel safer on disney then any of the other 10 cruises or of 17 that weren't disney, idk why

But refuse to let the few wackos in the world ruin it for the rest of us. (I remember my father saying something like this to me when we cancelled our RCI cruise after 9/11...)
Be alert, be proactive about being safe (like defensive driving), but have fun in spite of the wackos!

My first cruise was on Paquet's Mermoz.

They put a woman passenger off the ship in one port after discovering a line of cabin stewards outside her cabin. Seems she was having her way with them.
So it isn't always the crewmembers you have to watch for.

I guess that's one way to pay for your cruise. At least I'm guessing that is what was going on.

Our assistant server on the May Cruise is married and her husband is a bartender on another cruise line. When I asked her why one doesn't join the other, she said that DCL takes good care of her. Matters such as sexual harassment get handled quickly. She feels safe and taken care of with Disney compared to the other lines. It sounds like you're pretty much on your own if you have a problem with a coworker. Her husband prefers to stay where he is because his income is higher.

It's not just passengers that can be victimized. I can only imagine what the crew goes through.

I'll have to mention that to my wife. Maybe we can get up to a Cat 3. :rotfl: :rotfl:

RCCL does not print cabin #'s on the room key card. Found out the hard way when I couldn't remember what cabin I was in. We talked to staff onboard. They do not print the numbers due to security. Also, we were escorting a group and wanted to know what table #'s and dining times are guests had. They wouldn't tell us due to security as well.

What a scary thing to happen to that lady!

It serves as a great reminder that we should never let our guard down even when on vacation. DCL Seems as safe as can be but you just never know.

On our last cruise my husband and I were in the room relaxing and our room steward knocked once and opened the door without waiting for a response. I was shocked! I was also glad my husband was with me at the time. The steward was overly appoligetic but I still felt weird about him for the rest of the cruise. I made sure that any time I was in the room I had the privacy please on the door and the deadbolt on.

I think it's interesting that because it is a woman who is "entertaining" the crew you assume it's for money. I believe this is just one woman who really wanted to enjoy her vacation and a line up of men was the only ways she was going to be satisfied.

Repeat after me... women enjoy it too.

My mother met my stepfather in 1979 when we were passengers on the QE2. He was a server in the restaurant where we had all of our meals (he was not ours). Their eyes met, blah, blah, blah...through our server, he and my mother were able to "hook up." I remember him coming to our cabin on more than one occasion and we actually all spent the day together in St. Thomas. Didn't please me too much. He had to sneak around, risked losing his job, etc. Against the rules, yes! But, unfortunately, according to my stepfather, these things happen ALL the time.

PS. I think you can get an idea about how I felt about him from the tone of this post....

Actually I never said or implied that I thought that only because it was a woman. If it was a man in the room with a line of women I would of thought the same thing.

it's crazy that they have the room number on the key card.
Who does that anywhere? Certainly in no hotel I've stayed in, in the last few years.

As for what happened, it can probably happen on any ship, or in any resort...

all these companies do their best to hire good people, but people do get by...

about the time we sailed on DCL there was a crew member arrested by the authorities for drug smuggling....

I'm sure other things happen on all ships and in all resorts that we don't hear about...

you can't cut off these places from the world....bad things happen in the world and they do in resorts/ ships as well...

moral of the story is, you should always be careful, even on vacation....even on a ship, when you really do feel very very secure....it could well be a false sense of security...after all, you're also on that ship with 2000 other passengers.....any one of whom could be a nut...

Yikes! That poor woman.

As for the women entertaining the staff or being hit on by them: for the life of me, I don't know why these cruise lines don't absolutely forbid any fraternizing with the customers. Considering how many lawyers these corporations tend to have on staff, you'd think they'd do that.

I am normally the nervous nelly about my safety, etc. But the other day, I told my DH that if I started feeling seasick at night (we know he won't), and he was asleep, that I would just go up on deck and get some fresh air so I wouldn't disturb him. He gave me one of those wagging fingers and said very sternly "don't even think about it. You wake me up, and I will go with you and try to sleep on a lounge chair if I have to. I do NOT want you to wander the ship alone at night!"

He's right. I don't know what I was thinking. The truth is, that as stringent a criminal check they put their employees through, there are thousands of molestors, rapists, drug dealers, thiefs and heck, even murderers who have NEVER been caught. That means...they're still criminals but no one has found out yet (and I assume DCL doesn't perform psych tests or lie detectors tests on their applicants). They certainly don't know the history of who is cruising with them.

To quote Hill Street Blues, "Let's be careful out there folks."

and not just the employees.....just because someone can afford to go on a cruise does not mean they're not a criminal....
there's no way to screen passengers for deviant thoughts....
so you should definitely not drop your guard just because you're in a magical place....
