Reaction to Captain EO?

I've never seen it. How doe this compare to other WDW 3-D movies? How different is the theatre after the changeover? Should I take time away from seeing some of the live performances at WS?

I saw Captain Eo for the first time on Saturday. I wanted to laugh at parts due to some of the dated dancing, but it was super enjoyable and brought back a ton of fun memories from my experience as a young person growing up in the 80's. I am glad that we took the time to see it and that my kids could experience MJ in a way that I used to. The show uses the original opening, not upgraded (though it is now on digital format) which really adds to the flash back and acknowledgement to the past and our technology advances in the past 20 something years. I do not regret the experience.

I'm looking forward to this, having first visited WDW in 1996 or 97 when this was no more. Not much of a MJ fan, but HISTA was getting old to us, we'd skip it every other visit, and this and MSEP will give us something 'new' to look forward to.

Hmm. I have absolutely zero interest in this attraction. Although I did like MJ back in the day, I guess and I don't believe EO was there on our honeymoon in 1996 (if so, we didn't see it). But for some reason, this just holds no appeal to me. We will have 1 Epcot day in a few weeks, maybe we'll wander that way but I probably won't spend my limited park & Food & Wine time doing that.

I saw it when it first opened at Disneyland and saw it again last week. I loved it. The 3-D is crap, technology has come quite far since then, but seeing the talent of Michael Jackson (both in his voice and his ability to move) was great.

I had this same attitude. My gf wanted to see it, and I am glad she forced me to go It was very dated and cheesy, but very enjoyable. Funny too, although I do not think it was meant to be funny.

I saw it at Disneyland a couple of weeks ago and I'm so glad I did. It brought back so many childhood memories of when I saw it at Disneyland back in the 80s. Fabulously cheesy!

When we were there last month I had to force my husband to see Captain EO (even though I wasn't even quite sure what to expect). We enjoyed it, though I was also laughing when I probably should not have been....and the guys sitting next to me (die-hard EO fans) did not seem to be amused

How does it compare to the other 3-D movies? Well, it was filmed in 1986 so there's your answer right there. It's 24 years old and it shows. The film is definitely 80s style and that's the reason some people will laugh at certain parts (I did).

The theatre is no different after the changeover. Same preshow room (different preshow which I thought was boring), same theatre seating. So really no big changes there.

If you've never seen it before, I would take some time to see it now. There aren't any lines to speak of so it shouldn't take more than a half hour for the whole thing.

I got turned off to the talent of Michael Jackson after all the hoopla after his death. However, this film made me realize that at one time, Michael was the most talented man on the planet (or, on whatever planet Captain EO takes place) and it does show in this film. It's not the greatest piece of art but it was pretty darn good back in 1986.

I was glad I saw this shortly after it opened. However, it's not a repeater for me. Would I take guests who have never seen it? Most certainly.

I cannot wait to see this next week! It will bring back some great memories of family trips to WDW when I was a kid. I think you have to have been a kid (or teen) in the 80's to appreciate this! Like someone else said, Captain EO is a great way for the younger generations to see MJ in a different way.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in a few weeks. I visited EPCOT Center for the first time in 1984, so Magic Journeys was still playing in the Imagination pavilion theater. I went back to WDW a few times in the 90's, but never made it to Epcot. By the time I made it back, HISTA was playing (2004). I completely missed out on the Captain EO years. Now, I can see what I was missing. DD is also looking forward to it- she "discovered" MJ after his death and it will be nice for her to see him at his artistic peak.

michael jackson was a genius and will without a doubt be written down as one of the best entertainers in the history of pop music. with that said, if you are expecting quality effects like in avatar you will be completly let down. the plot is bad, the effects are laughable at best and the 3D is HORRIBLE!!!!

x2. I didn't get it. I was too young to see the golden age of MJ so he hasn't really impacted my life. I think the attraction is great for fans of his, but it isn't that great of an attraction as a whole. Won't be seeing it again, though it isn't any better/worse than HISTA.

Here is my take on this....I like Michael Jackson and have fond memories associated with his music. I did not see the Captain EO movie when I was young. I do remember seeing some of the trailer info/video to this movie when it ran in Disneyland. I wanted to see this movie when we went in July 2010 and so I took the wife and kids into the theatre. My wife was an 80's kid as well. I found the movie to be very outdated and not nostalgic, however I can see where some people who saw it at Disneyland when they were younger would say it was very nostalgic. My wife was less than impressed. My kids were on the brink of mutiny and I had to listen to how I wasted their time for the duration of the movie. When I was a kid, Star Wars was as cool as it got with effects. Now going back to watch those same older Star Wars films is a pain. The effects are just not so great anymore, almost cheesy. This is the same feeling for Captain EO. Time has dated the whole show and it is just not worth the time to see it....unless there is a specific nostalgic feeling for you.

Totally cheesy, totally perfect.. and yes the 3D sucked - although I forgot that it was 4D....


My DD7 is crazy obsessed with MJ- had an MJ birthday party, and has her room decorated with MJ - She about passed out with all of the merchandise and wears her Captain EO button daily! Cracks me up!

So SO much fun!

Glad I can say I saw it (Aug) but it's outdated and personally I hope its run doesn't last more than a year!

WDW can do so much better with the venue AND SHOULD!!!!!
