Re-using refillable mugs at Universal/IOA

I read on a previous post that you can re-use those refillable mugs to get cheap refills at US/IOA even years after you first bought them. I've got a Spongebob one that I bought last year - it is fairly long, blue with a built in handle and yellow lid in case anyone knows the one I mean!! If I took this with me on my forthcoming trip could I use it to get cheap refills? I don't want to try and be told no - my brother would KILL me for embarrassing him!!

i was at universal this month and took my 1999 dueling dragon mug.

yes, universal honors all mugs bought from them at any year you purchased it from them. you will not be embarrassed. they will be accepted.

ap gives you a 20% discount.

How does the size of the refillable mug compare to Disney's mug? Is it $1.50 to refill? I'm not sure a Disney sized mug would be worth $1.50 a refill.

You can get discounts on refills with your AP at any restaurant. Most of the food booths like the popcorn or hotdog stands don't have AP discounts.

The refill mugs at Universal are much bigger than the Disney mugs. You will see for yourself when you get there.

Thanks, sounds like it could be a pretty good deal. Isn't the restaurant discount 15%? If you purchase a mug in a merchandise place does it get you 20% off the mug (11.99 still?). Then 15% off the 1.50 refills in restaurants and a straight $1.50 if you refill somewhere outside of restaurant? Just seeing if I have the prices right. Are all the mugs the same size whereever you buy them? Thanks.

If you buy the mug at the restaurant or food booth, the price includes the first drink for free. If you buy at a store, you then have to go to another place to get your drink. It should still be free but my time is worth more than the 10 cents or so that I would save. All of the refill mugs hold the same amount whether they cost $5.95 or $11.95. I have the cheaper mug (a MIB one of course) with a handle.

not all carts take the ap for the 20% discount i found out this month when i was at UO.

what i did was just go to another station the did take the ap for the discount on the refills,

and that went for the bottle water also.

went to a cart by or near beetlejuice but was told no ap disccount allowed.
the tm told me to go across the street to the cart by richters and it was honored there.

The exact prices for the two types of mugs are $5.64 and $11.99. This does not include tax. Both hold the same amount.

The MIB store had the alien green mug for that price I believe, or somewhere near it and said it includes a free first fill (theres a stand right outside of mib)

the higher priced ones are better for souvenirs, the lower priced ones are more suited for the parks. US has the Spongebob and MIB, IOA has the Spiderman.

when i used my ap for the discount, i received 20% off the bill.

i used it on the carts that accepted it, in the merch stores and in the resturants and some at city walk.
