I have no idea where to ask this question. And it's probably a first, or near to it! I already have a Magic Band from my trip to AKV-Jambo last week. But next month I'm going to BCV, which I know is a test site, and Kidani, which I don't know yet. Do I use the same Magic Band or will they automatically send me a new one? I know that when I checked in last time, the CM said something about us re-using them on subsequent trips, but at this point in the testing process, I don't know if it's possible yet. And I'd just as soon re-use the same one. For one thing, it's red, and I DID notice on my last trip that I never saw another red one, almost every other color, but no other red. I like having a distinctive color! So how does it work to re-use it? Anyone know how to check?

Do you have an AP on your magic band?
MB are supposed to be functional for up to 3 years, so I thought you only needed one MB per AP.

There have been several split stay reports where someone goes from a MB resort to a non-MB resort and they can still use the MB at the next resort.

I'm not sure about his testing phase, if they would recognize your existing MB.

Eventually guests will not be given a new MB with a reservation unless they do not already have one. For right now, however, you get one with each stay. These bands are tied to you, not to the specific reservation, so you will be able to use whichever band you choose. Since they are tied to you, each band will be able to access the information on your MDE/MDX profile.

I have a voucher for a PAP that I plan to activate next visit. I didn't even try to link it on this last visit, so currently, my Magic Band doesn't allow me to get into parks.

If you have access to a smartphone you can link it from home. Just use the "Scan Pass" option. I did this for my son's PAP voucher and it worked like a charm.

If you have an exchange certificate, you can link it to your MDE account.

On the My Disney Experience website you can do it by clicking on the Linking Existing Reservations and Tickets. And then click Ticket or Pass.

On the app it is under Tickets & Passes, Link a Ticket or Pass.

I would double check and make sure your next reservation has linked to DMX as well.

I jsut linked and exchange voucher to three of them. My DVC waitlist did not come through so I had to book at POFQ and I got an invite today. Within an hour I had all vouchers linked and my fast pass+ all picked out. Plus made two calls to customer support!

Not trying to highjack this thread but I am double checking information. So we have VGF 10-26-10-31 and AKV 10-31-11-3. MDE is offering us two different sets of MagicBands. One set for each reservation. Both sets should work the same at both resorts correct???

What should happen and what does happen may be two different things. The Magic Band links you to your stored info in Disney's computers. Can you have 2 links to the same info, maybe. Did Disney offer you 2 sets in error, that's my guess. Will they probably have you use 1 set for your entire vacation, probably.

From the MagicBand and Cards FAQ:
Q. Can I reuse my MagicBand or card the next time I visit Walt Disney World Resort?

A. Yes. If you have a MagicBand or card that you like, and it is in working condition, you can continue to use it when you return to Walt Disney World Resort.

MagicBands are currently being tested by a limited number of pre-selected Guests. Due to the nature of the test, we are unable to accommodate requests to participate.

If you have multiple MagicBands or cards, you can manage which ones are active in the MagicBand section of My Profile.

Q. I have multiple MagicBands or cards. How do I manage them?

A. You manage your MagicBands or cards in the MagicBand section of My Profile. For example, you are able to:
  • Activate or deactivate MagicBands or cards
  • Report a MagicBand or card as lost
  • Customize MagicBands before they are shipped
Multiple MagicBands or cards can be assigned to a single person, so activating a new MagicBand or card does not mean that you must deactivate an existing MagicBand or card. All active MagicBands or cards assigned to a person have access to the benefits and entitlements for that person. Adding a new MagicBand or card does not add new entitlements, such as additional theme park admissions.

If you require additional assistance managing your MagicBands or cards, please contact us or visit any Guest Relations location at Walt Disney World Resort.

Actually, I was wondering this also. Like many people, my next stay is a plot stay. Actually it's a 3-way split if you count that I'm staying in 2 different villa sizes at one of the resorts. So I wonder if I'll be offered 3 MBs. Will all the info go on the first band (or the one I have now), and I just not enter the info for the other ones?

Thanks everyone for such quick replies. I customized both, one with VGF in the name and one with AVK since those are the resorts we are staying at, incase it does make a difference. But you would think to save money Disney would have considered split stays, especially with DVC members and accounted for the ability to only request 1 Magic Band per person versus automatically giving 2 sets.

disneynutz- I am hopefully but I wouldn't be surprised if two sets show up.

erionm- Thanks for the info. I actually scoured the My Profile section and the only thing it allows me to do is customize both sets. Maybe when we have them and book our next stay I will be able to use one of these sets.

Simba's Mom-Hopefully they will let you use the one you currently have if you like but if it works the way Imine is I would expect the option to customize 3 sets of Magi Bands.

In regards to the bolded and underlined statement...

If multiple bands can be active and assigned to one person, what is to stop people from, say, having two bands assigned to the same AP and giving one to a friend/family member to use during their trip?? For example, my DH and I are on the same reservation and I have a MB from a previous visit that has my AP on it. What would stop me from activating a new MB with my info on it and giving it to DH? There has to be a way to prevent this. Otherwise, only one person on the reservation would need to buy a ticket!

Because it scans the info when you enter the park. If someone else tries to go into the park they would be stopped because it would know you are already in the park.

It would be no different from the actual pass.

Don't the new turnstiles still use the thumbprint for verification? If so then it's the same thing as before. And if something didn't verify they would/should ask for an id.

Yes still have thumb print for plastic tickets so probably for Magic Band, too.

Also, for room charges, you have to enter your PIN. Like the added security for lost KTTW or magic bands.

But do they know when you exit the park? Just curious because I don't know how they track who has exited the park

It would be no different from the actual pass.

I figured it was something simple:rotfl2:. Thanks!

The fingerprint is still required. It's not any different than if you handed your ticket to a friend. They wouldn't be able to use it because the fingerprint (probably) wouldn't match. Their fingerprint system isn't foolproof, but it's good enough that the chances of two different people matching is fairly low.
