Re-Stringing Pearls

I would love to hear from anyone who has had experience getting pearls re-strung~ where is the best place to have it done, how long it took, how much it cost and any tips or advice~

My grandmother gave me a string of pearls when I was quite young and I treasure it. When they broke, my DH took them to a local jeweler for repair. It only took a few days and I don't recall it being expensive.

My Mom restrung my great grandmother's pearls for me a few years ago. She took them to a local shop that did it for cheap and it only took them a few days to finish.

I would find a local jeweler or take them to Tiffany & Co, or Cartier, the reason as they are less likely to switch your pearls on you. Stay away from the mall chain stores! I would also suggest that you have them knotted between each pearl, so if they break you only lose one, instead of the whole strand. I had mine restrung a few years ago, I don't remember how much it was, but it could not have been more than 50 or 75 Euros.

I recently had pearls restrung and knotted between each pearl. My friend does it (she works for a jewelers and is experienced). She didn't charge me, but she said if I took it to the store, they would've charged $2 per inch.

Take your pearls to a reputable jeweller to have them restrung, with a knot between each pearl. The jeweller will count the number of pearls on your strand when you leave it with him/her, and should give you a written total on the work order.
