How does everyone view the stricter rules for posting to the rent/transfer
board? Seems a bit stringent.

The DIS R/T Board is a service provided free for active DIS posters. We simply feel you should be an active part of our online community in order to use it. If you feel that is too restrictive, you are free to explore other options, including ebay or craigslist.

The rules are not being reconsidered at this time.

They are restrictive. But, DIS is a private entity, and can set the rules however it wishes. There are other venues (TUG, Timeshare Forums, and Redweek, along with other DVC-oriented boards that are "Bad Words" on the DIS) that allow more latitude, though sometimes for a fee.

Well said, Chuck. If you are a member, you act like a member. Join in the conversation with everyone else. Most of us don't try to post 50 messages in a few hours. We've been around for a long time.

Not too strict at all. I, for one, am grateful for whatever protections the DIS puts into place without outright banning the practice.

If you don't like it - there are other boards you can rent on. :thumbsup2

I think that the rules are fair as it is a service belonging to the DIS community.

As with any service, you are entitled to use it if you pay for it. In the case of the Rent/Trade board, you "pay" for it by contributing to other DIS forums.

I think its just great that this vehicle exists in case I ever do have points that I need to rent or transfer.

Well I guess the Mods have a hard enough time doing what they need to do and if they feel it is the best interst of the boards then so be it. Of course most of us that feel the rules are aokay:thumbsup2 would have no problem because we post regularly.

If you are truly a part of the Dis community what is the issue? If you are only using the board for a free rent trade site go elsewhere.

I admit to being an occassional DIScusser, and mostly a lurker. Just out of curiosity, what are the new rules?

You can't post a Points for Rent post on the R/T Board until you have 50 non-R/T Board posts. And they can't all be within the last day or two. Plus they can't consist of "me too", "I agree", etc. They have to be substantial posts.

Well....pop on over to the Rent/Trade forum and read up - there are lots of stickys there that will give you the lowdown....

They are too restrictive also in my opinion... but as stated there are other avenues out there. Hope the rules changes being considered makes things better for all of us.... renting points from others has really helped us "procrastinate" our addonitus until $$ times are better....

Again, if anyone feels it is too restrictive to require someone using our Rent/Trade board to be an active member of our community, there are other venues out there for point rentals. Since July, when we added the 50 post requirement, there have been a LOT of posters that registered with the DIS in 2001 to 2004 that posted nowhere except the Rent/Trade board to rent out their points or reservations, basically profiting from our community, but not wanting to be a part of it.

We have allowed them to catch up to the 50 post over several days, and allowed them to post, but then they again quit posting anywhere except Rent/Trade.

Beginning February 1, we will require there to be 50 non-Rent/Trade posts dispersed throughout the prior 6 months before the Rent/Trade posting. This will require them to be a regular, active poster in order to use our Rent/Trade board.

People will still be allowed to REPLY into Points for Rent threads seeking reservations or transfers.

I think that's another good change, Chuck.

think of it this way......
the disboards started as an online community, akin to a no-membership-fee club or local community organization.
those active in the club or community are welcome to use the free services the club or organization provides. the services are (normally) not intended for people who just come in to use the free services and not contribute to the community itself. there are other options for those who are simply looking for those particular services, without the commitment of being part of the organization.

remember, the disboards are an online community first, the rent/trade section is secondary to the community and not why it exists.......
so no, i don't think the rules are too restrictive, but rather a fair method to keep the boards safe, and to help those who contribute to the group as a whole :)

I don't rent but I do buy transfer points from time to time, and dealing with active DIS posters gives you access to information by way of their threads and posts that lends valuable insight on what type of people they are.

I personally would not buy points from someone with just a handful of posts, as they say "buyer be wear"

Are these changes only for DVC owners wanting to rent points? Or does this also apply to those who want to rent the points? Thanks!

you need to read the last line of the quote in your thread. but you can rent points w/o any posts.

think it is a good thing myself. Once you start posting to the Dis it is hard to stop.

so in the future if you have problems with someone you rented too - then the dis will know you want to clear it up because you would hate to banded from the dis.

does that make sense.

a person who only posts to the rent/trade board is not really part of the Dis.

It will apply to all thread submissions. Those seeking a reservation or transfer may post a reply into an existing thread.
