We're going without a rental car for the first time ever next trip and will hit Publix or some such place enroute to Dolphin as provided by the limo company we're using. My question is, what are our options for re-provisioning mid-week? We'll have a toddler and 7 adults and we'll be spending one day lounging around the pool, so I suspect we might run out of 'essentials'. Is a cab our only option to get back to a decent sized store? Will we be at the mercy of the WDW pricing? Are there 'normal' mass transit busses running in the area Can I catch WDW transportation at the Dolphin, get out somewhere (the PI,Downtown Disney area?), pick up some stuff and catch the WDW bus back? I'm already missing my rental!

Taking a cab to a grocery store will probably be your only option. If you do, my advice would be to go to the Winn-Dixie on 535. It's very close to Downtown Disney, and has decent prices.

Chip N Dale Express has it nailed. Don't be tempted to go to Goodings which is little closer, but a LOT more expensive

Thanks, Chip 'n Dale Express & dvc guy,

I know from personal experience about Goodings prices, but they were just so easy to find. I'll take the advice offered here and leave the finding to the limo and cab drivers. It's hard to believe that there's no municipal transportation system in place with all the traffic there, but then, Disney IS the government there, aren't they?

It's actually cheaper to do your grocery shopping at 7-11 than at Goodings. The brand new WinnDixie is only a half mile further than Goodings.

As for a public transit, there is... the Lynx 56 leaves from the TTC twice per hour, and heads down 192 where there are grocery stores and other shopping sites. $1.25 to ride. Not sure if I'd be wanting to carry groceries on a public bus, though.

For the cost (plus tip) of taking a taxi both ways, you'd be better off renting an economy car for the day from Alamo/National to do your shopping.

Since you're not staying in a DVC resort (with the full size refrigerator and kitchen), will you really need enough to justify the trip??? If it were me, I'd just check out the general store on the Boardwalk, especially if all I wanted was milk, soda and snacks. Yes, the prices are a bit higher, but nothing compared to my vacation time and the cost of the cab ride.

That said, I have no experience with brands & prices for "adult" beverages. Maybe that makes a difference. :teeth:
