I was driving in the back way on Sherberth road to the AK today when I noticed behind the auditions/casting building, Hollywood Studios backlot tour trams are parked/dumped in a field. Cows are grazing 25 ft away from the tram that is just sitting in the grass in pieces. It was not there last week.
This is far away from DHS and there is no way this is a place where it would be undergoing repairs. It "appears" to have been dumped there.
I am "hypothesizing" that they would only treat the tram this way if they were done with it.
As it seems this is a less than popular ride, my "guess" is that they are not planning on getting any new improved trams to replace it.

Good find. I'm surprised the Backlot Tour lasted this long. They've been clearing a few back stages over the past few years, it's just a question what they'd put back there should the day ever come. It could be that they dumped them there simply because they're broken down though. I think I heard someone a while back talk about seeing old Jungle Cruise boats and other ride vehicles dumped off in a backwood area near Epcot. Either way, the thing is dated, and would probably be the first to go in the event of a refurb at HS.

That's a great find -thanks for sharing. I used to love the backlot tour before they ruined it.

Hmm, I don't know if this is a sign its going away...it looks like you found the "spare parts" depository. The backlot tour is one of the original attractions there, I dobt they'd get rid of it, even if Cars Land got put it, they'd probably find a way to incorporate it into the tour.

I think we can all agree that the Backlot Tour needs to go. This is an interesting find, I just don't think it is proof that its going away in the near future. I see this as just getting rid of vehicles that are never used and freeing up some space. Who knows though, this could be the start of something... I just wouldn't bet on it.

I could be wrong, but aren't the tractors that pull the ride cars open air? This appears to be an old tractor with parts cars.

The ones pictured are the current vehicles. The one towards the front appears to be missing the side panel to enclose guests in. But the vehicles don't have any windows, as you said, being open air :)

But... HS water tower "Trademark" is inside this ride. If they got rid of it, it would be like getting rid of the Epcot golf ball or the Cinderella Castle. I can't imagine them taking the water tower away. But since the Mickey wizard hat is more popular, that will probably become the new "trademark."

This opens up a whole new topic-- anyone care to start?

I sure hope they plow over LMA as well. That show is horrible

Keep in mind that if they cancel the Backlot Tour, then the new Cars Land will be over there with new walkways. The Earful Tower will still be completely visible, and even easier to take a Family Photo with.

No need for the hat anymore.

Was there ever a need for the hat? ... Besides needing to cover the Chinese theater... Haha

But, would we EVER be able to find a pin shop if it didn't have a hat on top of it?! Right in the middle of the park!

The rumor was that they would keep the water tower but just move it somewhere else I've heard this from many people. Also I've heard rumors that the sorcerer mickey hat will be going good bye in DHS.

There was old trams (I believe) by the Epcot parking lot. I saw them while walking to the corrals during the Princess half. I remember thinking that they were from the backlot but looked like they may have been older versions. It was 4:00 a.m. so my memory is a little fuzzy.

The Earful Tower would never go, it is near Creative Costuming, Imagineering, and Corporate buildings. Look at the map on Google. Also, I don't think I would classify it as a "trademark." Yes, you can get a great viewing angle from the attraction, but you can also see it from World Drive. Before the "Hat," Grauman's was the "trademark" for the park.
