Hi,

Can anyone explain what using RCI is not a good use of points means??? I keep seeing this and I still don't have a handle on the RCI thing.

From what I can gather it's about 160 points for a week in a 1 bedroom. Is this correct???? Seems to me a week for 160 points isn't bad? Am I missing something?

I'm not DVC yet, but we are waiting for ROFR. Not that I would trade out often, but it doesn"t seem like that bad of a deal.?????

Help with this TIA

i know one nonDVC 1BR you could trade for through RCI. it would cost $1 on ebay and annual dues are about $300. does that seem like a good trade for what you are paying? i'm guessing your annual dues will be in the $800ish range?

there are some good options for trades through RCI, but not very many. in many cases you would be trading down for units you could have gotten much more cheaply by doing some research and buying a $1 timeshare on ebay.

lodging prices onsite at wdw are inflated. DVC makes some sense compared to those rates. but if you are going to trade out on a regular basis, there's no point paying cadillac prices so you can trade for chevys.

I personally think using DVC for an occasional RCI trip is just fine. But, if you are looking at using your DVC for RCI trades on a regular basis, then you should probably pick up a less expensive timeshare specifically for RCI trading.

I'm definitely not into trading out regularly and want to own at Disney, I quess I just still don't get it. 160 points for a 1bedroom in aruba seems good to me?

Point wise, it isn't awful. The problem is in comparing the purchase cost and maintenance fees of those points to other timeshares that also trade well in RCI.

As I said, for occasional use, I think trading DVC into RCI is fine, but buying DVC if your primary goal is to trade out of the system is not the best use of your funds.

We've trade twice outside of DVC since buying in 2001. The first time was when it traded into Interval International and we got an incredible 2-bedroom "flat" in an area of south England called "The New Forest". Then last year we traded into RCI and stayed in the highlands of Scotland at the Hilton Craiggondarrich. Both trades I would do again in a heartbeat.
