We're thinking about going to Sedona this coming March was trading DVC points for an RCI reservation. Does anyone have recommendations for s particular resort that they have stayed at and liked?

I think you will have a much wider, and better, response over on TUG (www.tug2.net ). If you join TUG ($15 per year) you will also have access to the resort reviews.

There is a Wyndham resort in Sedona. It looks very nice, and I've seen nothing but good reviews -- but I've never stayed there. We are considering that resort (in combo with a stay at the Wyndham Flagstaff and a couple of nights in Grand Canyon) for next summer.

I was going to try to look at more detailed info for you, but the Wyndham owners site is down until tomorrow. In the past I've seen decent availability at Wyndham Sedona, but 4 months out is pretty late in the game for an RCI exchange. You won't know until you try.

We love the Hyatt Pinon Point. We stayed there the past two spring breaks.
This year we are trying the Wyndham Resort as we got a really good deal. Sedona is fabulous in the spring. You will love it!

I should mention that we booked through tripbound.com for the Wyndham property.

We stayed at the Wyndham for a few nights a couple of years ago. Not an exchange, we paid cash with a really good rate.
It was a nice stay, though next trip to Sedona I want to try a different resort with maybe more resort offerings.
The wyndham units were very roomy. We had a one bedroom unit. Everything was well kept, the unit was clean.
We did enjoy the pool and hot tub, but that is the extent of the resort that we enjoyed. They brought snow cones out by the pool during the afternoon, which our DD thought was great.
The thing that bugged me, and I have read this is true with many timeshare resorts, is they kept trying to get us to attend a meeting. I finally just unplugged the phone so they would stop calling.
Sedona is beautiful.

That is true of many timeshare systems, especially if you sign up for a "great cash deal." Those great deals often require attendance of a timeshare sales presentation.

With Wyndham, you have to understand that their sales force is nothing like DVC and nothing like the rest of the Wyndham timeshare system.

The timeshare system and resorts are fine. The sales force is among the sleaziest in a sleazy industry. I think they compete to see who can come up with the biggest lie, and the "presentations" eventually devolve into a very high-pressure ordeal that can resemble a hostage-taking. Avoid Wyndham sales presentations at all cost.

You can buy Wyndham virtually for nothing on eBay, so don't waste your time and subject yourself to the sales weasels.

We had no pressure to attend a presentation at the Hyatt Pinion Point.

The Wyndham owners site is back up and I checked availability. There was nothing for March 2015, but there is pretty good availability from about April 10 forward.

Of course, that is Wyndham points availability, and like DVC, has absolutely nothing to do with RCI exchange availability.

RCI may, or may not, be available. You would need to check via the DVC RCI folks anyway.

I wouldn't let the sales process interfere with resort choices, just learn to say no. The best options in general are likely the Hyatt, Wyndham and Sedona Springs. 3 months from now is very short notice for such an exchange. The only availability I see in RCI points is Sedona Pines at a place worth considering. Nothing additional on the RCI weeks side, actually much less. I didn't look at other similar locations.

We stayed at the Wyndham as well, gorgeous property, great rooms, pool was great, location was great, would stay there again in a heartbeat. My only complaint is weird windows in the 2nd bedroom where we stayed. They are up high and no shades. We are from the east coast and the sun came in and woke my 2 small kids at 5 am. With everyone else sleeping and no free rooms (SIL was on the sofabed) I had to take the kids and drive around Sedona for 2 hours at 5 am or wake up the whole house. Not a great start to the vacation. We bought foil at the store and covered the windows and the rest of the trip was fine.

Learn to say no several times, matter of fact you don't really even need to listen. If you just say no about once per minute for the two hours that the one hour presentation takes you'll be fine.

Or better, just say no to scheduling the tour/update. It's really not that big of a deal even at Westgate properties which are somewhat notorious in this field. Once you get out of the US it can get a little more harried in some situations, esp in places like MX.
