Why did they turn off the search function? Now I can't see what everyone has said in the past.

Here are some hotels that turned up on my Travelocity search for our dates. They averaged 3 stars or diamonds and smileys, all under $70/night. I was thinking of a weekend near Sea World/Universal. How do they stack up?

Days Inn Downtown Disney
Amerisuites Universal
Sleep Inn & Suites Universal
Clarion Hotel Universal
Howard Johnson Intl Dr
Microtel Inn & Suites
Comfort Inn International
La Quinta Inn International
Extended Stay Universal (no info)

Thanks :)

Sorry, none of them stack up for me.

imho, for the Universal area, I would go with priceline and get a better room for less $$$.

herc.

From what I've read on this board I think Amerisuites would be the best..

Not everyone can use Priceline (such as myself) because my dates have to be VERY flexible (due to my DD's job) so it makes it hard when you're asking for opinions and everyone keeps saying, "Use Priceline.."

I've heard really good things about Amerisuites on these boards though so I'm assuming the one near Universal is just as nice..

I would check hotel reviews at : travelocity.com , tripadvsior.com, and bidfortravel.com. The bidingfortravel.com has a section on Orlando florida hotel reviews which quiet extension.

This where I go when I need hotel reviews. I try these three first.

I hope that helps. If not let me know.

I know about having to be flexiable with vacations plans and understand completely. I can't do priceline either.

None of them stack up for me either. Why don't you try Hotel Kingdom, I personally have never used them, but alot of people on these boards have.

I went twice this year and stayed at Hawthorne Suites, both by the airport and the Hawthorne suites Universal. Got a 1 BR with living room and full kitchen for $74. Comes with free hot breakfast and happy hour every evening.

Actually, I've hear that the Clarion Universal is fairly nice. It's right across the street from Universal. It got 3 stars/ grade 67 in the unnoficial Guide, too. Those grades are strictly based on the rooms, not the enite hotel.

I saw it somewhere for around $52 a night. Hotel Kingdom. maybe???

The Amerisuites universal got 3.5 stars/ grade 76 in the Unofficial guide.

I doubt either one are really fancy, but if your just looking for a clean, safe, comfortable place, they would probably be fine.

BE CAREFUL, some of the cheaper rates require pre-payment and/or have substantial cancellation penalties.

PL isn't for everyone BUT if you book something that can be cancelled you can try PL a few days before you leave.

Thanks, I love the free hot breakfast :) The Residence Inn by Sea World had hot breakfast last time, but they don't have the super special rate any more. They had "happy hour" too, but only on weekdays.

I did run across Hotel Kingdom while searching but didn't fiind anything yet. Now I have to find a hotel in Tampa too because no frequent flier seats were available to Orlando on our dates so we're flying into Tampa and renting a car there instead.

P.S. Just checked "Hawthorne suites" and only found one by LBV, not Universal. Do you have a link, by chance? Also found a different "Hawthorn suites" by Sea World without the breakfast. They have a room not suite for $40/night. Does anyone know how they stack
up?

Joanna, after calling Hawthorn I found your info was right on, although they didn't have the info on the web. Hawthorn (without the "e") does also have a Universal location.

Thanks :)
