Rate the Ride: Matterhorn Bobsleds

I always have to go on this ride, it is bumpy, but I guess if they smoothed it out it wouldn't be the same to me... dd (3 at the time) went on it with me in Oct... she was fine through the whole thing, but when we got off and asked her if she wanted to do it again, she was very quick to say "no way!"

Reminds me of my first roller coaster back here in KC. It was called the Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun. It really is the perfect coaster for someone's first time.

Not a fan. It is the only Mountain ride I don't really enjoy. My husband and younger son really like it, however.

Yeah, same here...I had DD4 in front of me and it was soooo bumpy and the seat soooo hard on my bottom haha! It was alright, but no where near one of me fave's......

The Matterhorn is one of the greater rides at the park. My only suggestion is adding Fastpass which would be difficult because of the surrounding area. I love the Matterhorn because it's the only one [unlike thunder, space, and splash] and it has a great storyline and it is fun and thrilling. That abominable snowman still scares me.

I like the sharp turns, just wish it was a smoother ride. It seems a lot bumpier then it was when I was a kid. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't remember it being so rough back then.

Maybe it's time to replace the tracks with new ones and bring the original back to it's former glory.

I absolutely LOVE the Matterhorn! It's fantastic!

Weren't they going to change out the tracks, or something like that, in order to make it run more soomthly?

This is one of our family's favorite rides!

We love to ride the fantasyland side during the nighttime.

I like it a lot. It's not one of my favorites by any means, but I always make a point to ride it.

It's the first roller coaster I've ever ridden at DL. I still remember being afraid of the abominable snowman when I was 7 years old :rotfl:

I also like it because it's one of the classic, older rides that has been at DL for a long time.

How would you rate this ride for someone with a bad neck? I'd like to try it, but I've always been afraid of the jerkiness.

LOVE~Love~Love IT!!!! Try it at night and day! Try both sides!!

Sure it's bumpy and shakey...it is a steel bumpy roller coaster...I don't think I ever walk away saying man that wsa bumping...more like again again!!!

I think CS is WAY worse as far as problems with back/neck

I love AND hate this ride. I love the kitsch factor it has (with those growling monsters, the red glowing eyes :lmao:), but it really shakes me to the core and kinda gives me a headache. But we rode it a few times. Have tylenol ready!

I've never tried it at night, though - we rode it during MM because the lines later are so long. I can see how that would be great; maybe we'll try that next time.

It is way too jerky and jarring for me--it gives me a headache and messes with my back. Every time I have ridden it (always for my kids)--I smile and act like I like it, but inside my head I am thinking "when will this thing be over??";)

If you have a bad neck or back, I would definitely avoid it! It isn't that scary as far as a roller coaster, but the jarring effect is really bad.

I love the concept of the Matterhorn Bobsleds and will ride them if I'm not in a hurry to do anything else each trip. I probably will ride them 1 out 4 visits just for nostalgia purposes. I don't think they compete with newer attractions for thrill or anything, but it's fun to be able to experience such an old attraction still today.

I had the thrill of going to DL on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Matterhorn, Subs, and Monorail with the designer of all 3 - Bob Gurr. Get this: he doesn't like coasters! Just no one ever told Walt no - so Bob rode one for research. And - he was and car guy ( did all the main street vehicles, and the autopia ) and knew nothing about coaster design - he even had to teach himself trig to design it! And adding to the challenge is that there are 2 tracks and they're mostly inside a mountain! He said he'd lay out a section and they'd be installing it before he even had the next section calculated - he was juggling designing all 3 attractions at once for a deadline only a year or so away. Now it takes years for 1 ride. But his lack of expertise is one of the things that led to all the innovations - like that steel tubular track.
He wouldn't ride it but I got a great pic of him pretending to! (I'd include it but can't figure out how..)
There are dvds of Bob telling his stories out there -- well worth getting.

I noticed how bumpy it was when I rode it in '08, but it didn't really bother me. After a while, my body just sort of knew how to brace itself for each and every upcoming turn, so it really wasn't too bad. Muscle memory I guess. :D

But yeah, it's a toosup between Big Thunder and Matterhorn. I love the themeing of Thunder, but I love the cool breeze and views of Matterhorn.

The Matterhorn was one of my favorite rides as a kid. My father was so relieved when all of us kids were finally tall enough to ride! I have many fond memories from being a kid/teen on this ride.

But as an adult, I have mixed feelings. It is really rough and jerky on me, and I don't have any back problems or the like. The last few times I've gotten off really shook up. For DS (4 and then 5 years old) it was the ONLY ride we couldn't coax him back on after a first ride, and he rode everything he was tall enough for, including Space Mountain and Tower of Terror. So he and I sat off together.;)

One tip for a shorter line: ride during the parade. The only line open around the mountain is the Tomorrowland side (by the subs), but when you get to the front, they have both sides of the ride open. The line looks really long, but it moves at double speed.

For years as a kid my mom had to stay off this ride while my dad took my sister & brothers. I was terrified of it because I thought you had to go down the waterfall lol. I think I was 12 or so when they finally figured out my aversion to this ride and I finally rode it.

My DS6 just rode it for the first ime at Christmas and we made 1 mistake here, do not take a kid for the first time at night those first few tunnels are really dark what was I thinking? When we got off he said he will ride it again when he is 12 Harold's red eyes freaked him out.

Since getting home he says he will ride it again when we go in October but only in the daytime.
