Well, what I'm really eating for today's lunch is more of the same soup I had from my
Crocs on Saturday. I made a big pot of it, and I'll probably eat it at least a couple of more times before it's gone. Nobody needs to see it again - I already know what you all think of my soup.
We are having a rainy, windy day here today, which reminded me of about this time 2 years ago, when Hurrican Ivan blew through my little town and damaged it very badly. My family and I were very blessed not to have any major damage to our house, but we did lose a lot of trees, including one enormous old oak in the back yard which would have taken most of the house with it when it fell, were it not for the fact that it fell the other way. Still rejoicing over the direction of that fall, still mourning the loss of the oak. 5 yards touch our yard, and 3 of the houses attached to those yards were completely destroyed by that storm. We were without power for several days, and we didn't get our landline phone back for 6 weeks.
All of that to say, today, in honor of that time, I am posting a photo of some of the remnants we still have around the house of the military MREs we all ate for about a week after the storm. MREs, mm mm good eating. Here are a few items with my other dog, Rosie, finally sitting still to be a backdrop for them.
What we have here is a beef stick, a slice of something they have the nerve to call "wheat bread", a strawberry "dairyshake" and a cappucino mocha powder. Also included is the little condiment package, containing a packet of Taster's Choice instant coffee, a cute little bottle of Tabasco, some non-dairy creamer, sugar, salt, pepper, a napkin, a moist towelette, and 2 little green chiclets.
Had this been a real MRE, there would have been an entree included, but we ate all of those back then.
So, how do you like my hurricane lunch?
