Rash on DD7.....

We just came back from WDW on Saturday, DD7 and DS3 shared the pullout sofa the entire week. DH and myself laid on the bed a few times with them. This morning DD wakes with a bad rash on her ears, behind her ears and on her neck right below the hairline. I gave her some allergy medicine before she left for school. I just got a call from the nurse telling me DD was in her office complaining about the rash, she checked her ears and one seems a bit red. But she said she hasn't seen a rash like this because its all over her ear and behind it, I mentioned under her neck - she said she didn't even see that but will look now that I mentioned it.

I checked a few sites to see if I could figure out what it is, seems quite a few people have had it but there aren't any answers as to what it was. Some suggest it could be bed bugs/lice - I doubt either - I checked for lice this morning (god for bid) and the bed bug thing just doesn't add up. Wouldn't we all have had some bites, and if it were from the hotel wouldn't we have seen a reaction earlier in the week as opposed to almost a week after we are home?

Could it be a sun exposure reaction? The areas you mention are ones that can easily be missed when applying sunscreen generally, but can get more than their share of sun exposure.

my friend's son just had a rash that started like that, and it ended up being fifths desease. Look it up and see if the rash looks lacey like it. They diagnosed him with 2 other rashes before figuring out what it was.

Thanks for the replies! It seems that she was bit by an insect, possibly a spider. She is on prednisone, amoxicillin and cortizone creme. This morning her left earlobe is swollen. The rash looks like little bumps all over her ears (inside and out) as well as on the back of her neck. It is also causing her skin to peel.

Wow, with the skin peeling I would almost say it has to be some type of staph infection. My son had a similar rash on his face, on one side. Turned out that he had a cut on his FOOT that had gotten infected and the staph infection came out on his face and not the foot. His left side of the face peeled after of a few days of antibiotics.

If it was a bug bite, why would the worst rash be by BOTH ears? Sounds like something systemic, or something that the ears were exposed to more than anything else. Something used to wash pillowcases? New hat that had chemicals on it left over from manufacturing?
