*Rant* Family is "suddenly" Staying Offsite

I just got off the phone with my parents, and the entire side of my immediate family is now going to stay offsite for our wedding. No big deal right? WRONG!! We already signed our contract, and they accounted for a large number of rooms in the room block. ARRRG!! Im not sure even reducing the amount of rooms 60% will be enough. Im all for them saving money, but this could be a problem. Thanks. Needed to get that out to people who understand. Rant is over.

That sucks!! And they so should have told you that before you signed the contract! Did you tell them you signed a contract and that you may have to pay for them not staying there now? Maybe they will re-evaluate their costs and what it would cost you, and change back to staying on property?

I had the same problem when I was married at WDW for my first marriage (ahem...it didn't take).

I was able to do a bit of research and find out what conventions were being held on Disney property. I called up one of the company participants and they booked 15 room nights at Boardwalk under my wedding package. I was lucky, the organizer for that company really wanted to help me out and she definitely did. I guess you could also maybe offer your discount to families not invited to your wedding that could benefit from the discounted rooms...I don't know if Disney frowns on this now, but when I did the convention room thing, my planner didn't say anything negative about it to me.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and do the same.

Thats an interesting idea. I wonder what Disney's thoughts are on that. Im hoping things will work out, and we can drop the number. We really need people to book though so we can get a gauge of where we are at. So far the only people booked are DF and I. We had lengthy discussions (like are you sure you want/ are able to do this)with most parties involved waaaaay before we made anything official. We wouldnt have signed on if we weren't sure people were gonna go. And now we are really starting to wonder if it will end up being just DF and I.

Maybe even do a call out on the resorts board to see if anyone there can help you fill your room block. I'm certain that there would be people over there, who will be happy to help.

Just go on different parts of the DIS and post that you need help with a room block. That's what I did and I made my quota no problem.

I would have no problem requesting the assistance of The Dis for help as long Disney has no problem. I can't recall (though im going to look) if it states anything in the contract regarding using "non" wedding guests to fill the block. Its an amazing deal at POR. Im sure there would be no problem, just don't want to make the Mouse mad.

They just need your wedding info and you get their reservation # and submit it to Disney....piece of cake!

Define "amazing deal" please. I've never stayed onsite, but if the price was right, I could be convinced!
