MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Randy Moss was arrested Tuesday evening after a reported run-in with a Minneapolis police traffic control officer in downtown Minneapolis.

Moss was shown on local television in a squad car in handcuffs, according to The Associated Press. ESPN.com is reporting that the star receiver will face a second-degree assault charge, which is a felony.

Minneapolis police are reportedly preparing a statement about the incident and possible charges and are expected to release it Tuesday night.

Minneapolis police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said Moss was in police custody Tuesday night and his Lexus remains impounded after the incident that occurred about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Barrington said the traffic officer tried to stop Moss from making an illegal turn, and Moss used his car to slowly push the officer along the street.

The officer was not seriously hurt.

A man who was coming out of the jail at the time Moss was heading in told the Star Tribune that Moss wasn't wearing handcuffs, was escorted by two deputies, appeared to be carrying paperwork and that he looked mad. "He looked very angry," Tim Callender told the newspaper.

Moss, 25, is coming off of a poor game Sunday for the winless Vikings.

He caught four passes for only 16 yards and was the object of sideline berating from quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper and Moss both downplayed the sideline incident, saying they are friends and the incident was borne from competitive frustration.

Vikings coach Mike Tice said Tuesday night that he had no comment on the incident until he had more details, saying he was still trying to figure out "what is going on," according to ESPN.com.

Moss became the center of the Vikings offense this season, with new head coach Mike Tice pledging to institute a "Randy Ratio" in which 40 percent of all passes are thrown to Moss.

The Vikings wide receiver has been involved in a number of on- and off-field incidents since he was drafted in the first round in 1998. He squirted a referee with a water bottle in 1999 and reportedly abused corporate sponsors on the team bus in 2001.

He was also involved in several heated sideline exchanges with Culpepper and former Vikings receiver Cris Carter last season.

Despite having a strong year statistically, Moss was left off the All Pro team last season while the Viking struggled through a 5-11 season that ended in tumult when former coach Dennis Green abruptly resigned before the season finale.

There were reports that some NFL players -- who select the Pro Bowl team -- were miffed by comments Moss made last season in which he said he only plays hard when he wants to.

Moss is in his fifth year with the Vikings and is the team's highest-paid player. He signed an eight-year, $75 dollar contract with the Vikings last year.

OMG... more problems for Vikes Head Coach Mike Tice.. my former high school football teammate. I am really pulling for the Vikings this year. All i have to say is about Randy Moss he will get no sympathy from Coach Tice .. I am certain of that!!!

  This is why I am not a Fan of Football or any other Sport that pays Players MORE for running around a field with a Ball.

These young people who make too much money too soon can't seem to grow up, do they? He hasn't played well since he got the big bucks either.

Is it any wonder why our household roots for whoever is playing the Vikes? Moss is pathetic. He needs to grow up big time.

Actually, I am a TWINS fan because they seem to be less terperamental than football players. Perhaps the 162 games a season makes them more work oriented!

Remember, this is why Moss ended up finishing his career at Marshall and why teams passed on him (or considered passing) in the NFL draft.

From someone who lives in Mpls and has always and will continue to be a viking fan.

The better NOT let him play in this Sunday's game. What would that say if that allow him to play!

That kid was in trouble from the time he could walk. Before he left Marshall he was always in trouble for something. That was before he was even making money too. I don't think it has anything to do with $$$$$. He just has a bad attitude.

Statistically, a receiver that is in jail will catch 0% of the attempted passes. Guess that blows the coaches theroy that they win if he does get 40% of the passes.

Having played football in HS and College I cannot even imagine a coach demoralizing the rest of the team that way by making that kind of statements. That treatment is what leads these guys to think they are above the rules that the rest of society lives by.

That all depends on the type of "passes" you're talking about! ;) :) ;)

He is your typical big ego ball player who thinks he is above the laws that the common man has to follow and im glad h didnt get a break because of his celebrity status!!

I'm so sick of these punk athletes. Look at how people admire Allen Iverson! He should be in prison but his shoes are selling more than ever.

I agree with jbethke they should NOT play him on Sunday. I also hope he gets the punishment from the law that he deserves not buy his way out of it like a lot of celebrities do.

I just saw the interview with him on the news, and he has some SERIOUS interpersonal issues. I would guess they are mostly agains women. When questioned by the reporters, he answered the questions, but snapped at a woman reporter, saying..."Listen to me, woman...." I would have had a hard time not slapping his face!

Also in the interview, he said that while in Jail, he was treated with RESPECT!  Good, maybe when he kills someone, he will be treated with MORE respect!

Our local news is reporting he will be in the game Sunday.

:( :( Herc.
