Random WDW Info - I Never Knew!

About the baobob tree in AK- On Wild By Design Tour, the guide told us that the real trees (I thought he said there were two) were found in Florida. The way he told the story, a visitor to the park mentioned to a cast member that the fake trees looked like ones she had growing on her property, and Disney then bought them from her. I don't think they know how they got to Florida in the first place.

This was actually true until the opening of "Walt Disney: One Man's Dream" in the Disney-MGM Studios.

Last time I was in this it wasnt a ride. :sad2:

Some have mentioned Disney Trivia books. Would you mind posting the title/author information. Thanks! :sunny:

Thats being a bit picky. Some would say COP isn't a ride either. Many attractions over the years (DL and WDW) have had the name Walt Disney on them.

Walt Disney's Enhanted Tiki Room
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress
Walt Disney One Mans Dream
The Walt Disney Story featuring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
The Legacy of Walt Disney

IMO, COP is definitely a ride. I sit on it and the seat moves me to the next section. I ride the seat. :)
All joking aside, I love COP

Sorry the post didnt turn out right. I said C.O.P. is the only ride with Walts name on it. Someone else said that was true untill One Mans Dream opened. I say One Mans Dream isnt a ride. Maybe its just me though. :wave2:

I agree that COP is a ride. But I have heard people who would claim it is a show and not a ride at all.

Lou, I have your first book, and I really enjoy it. Is the second volume set up in the same format of quesiton and answer in the back of the book?

Nicole,

Thank you very much! I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the first book!! :)

Volume II will be in the same Q&A format, but there are about 700 All-NEW questions and descriptive answers! Look for it sometime in May. Visit my web site for more details, (and pre-orders will be accepted soon)

Anyone have anything else? I really enjoy reading this info. Or maybe someone else has started another thread if so--post it here! thanks, Deb

I don't know how true this is, maybe I'm a sucker. I read that when the Contemporary resort was built, the rooms were all modular, and were designed to be removed if they needed repairs or refurbishment, and then reinserted. Sounded really cool when I read it, sounds outlandish now that I'm saying it... :confused3 :rolleyes1

That is true, The Contemporary was built that way.

An interesting fact about the chess playing skeletins in POC. A few years back the ride recieved an extensive refurb. Seems when it came time reset the game no one had bothered to note the position of the "stale mate" that caused the untimely deaths. After many days of trying to recreate the set up some one turned over a page of notes from the original construction file and discovered the lay out noted on the back by one of the original imagineers and the scene was finally reset as it had been.

We did a Wishes cruise last month and our captain told us about the modular units in Contemporary. If you look at the room sides of the hotel you can see bars going up and down. He said they are tracks that would be used to remove a room. The rooms slide out and then it would go down the track. The new room would go in the same way. I think he said its never been done though, so not sure about that part. Pretty freaky!

This is one of my favorites - it was told to me by a boat driver...

The building we know to be the Dolphin was originally supposed to be the Swan, and vice versa. When the construction crew mistakenly put the huge dolphin statues on top of the wrong (Swan) hotel, it was decided that it would be easier to change the hotel names than to take the statues back down and put them where they belong!

That's an urban legend. Someone asked if it was true at a Lunch with an Imagineer, and he said it wasn't true.

this thread is soooooooooooooooooooo awesome!!!!!

anybody got info about stuff like, how many employers of what type does WDW have, how much the water / electricity costs or anything per hour/day/month or so is?? and how much there is used ????

all this kind of info, because it really amazes me how HUGE the world is !!

Max

Disney has their own power plant. :thumbsup2

*To keep the 200 or so props in THE HAUNTED MANSION looking untouched and dusty, Disney buys five-pound bags of Theartical dust ,known as "Fuller's Earth", in large quantities. There has been enough dust since the atractions opening in 1971 to bury the mansion completely!

The question is, where does all that dust go?

I also noticed the unusual sausage tree by the shops in Africa...

You see that... I did not know that sausages grew on trees! Leave it to a piglet lover to clear that up for me!
