My first appartment rental was about $700/ month. I had a roommate so $350ish each.

We purchased our current home in 2002 the year after we got married for $280K

The first one I owned was a condo in a gentrifying part of town; bought for $77K in 1990 and sold for $98K in 1992. The last time I was curious enough to check the public records in 2014 (the most recent peak market here and the year we bought the place we're living in now) the tax assessment on it was $390K.

We bought a 3BR townhome in the suburbs of Philadelphia in 1993 for $108,000. We lived there for 5 years and sold it for $113,000. It recently sold for $312,000, which seems insane to me.

I lived in Europe for 13 years and rented, but don't recall any of the rental costs. I bought my first house when I came back to the us in 1998 for $94K. I still own it and rent it out. I bought the house I own now in 2006 again for $94K. It is in Western PA a rather depressed area. You can buy a house in Johnstown where I live for $2500, I kid you not.

1/4 acre, three bedrooms, attached garage, two full baths and a powder room. Full basement. We loved that house, and area, and we made lifelong friends there.

Rented a brand new condo when we first got married in 1982. $508.50 a month for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo with laundry in the unit, 1,100 square feet. They were trying to sell them for $76,000.
A year later bought a 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1756 square foot 4 year old house for $101,000. Zillow says it is worth $502,900 today. Redfin says it is worth $592,692. Realtor $488,200. Including adding onto the house, remodeling (now 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and 2010 square feet) and original purchase price, we are into the house for $246,000.
