Random Disney Chatter

Do they ever offer free dining in late December/early January?

Or any other things like big room discounts?

You know, Disney is full of all that stuff about "with the power of your imagination you can make your dreams come true".

To be a bit blunt and hopefully a bit funny, I'm gonna suggest that you are gonna need A LOT of imagination to make your discount dreams come true over the Christmas/New Year period! :lmao: :goodvibes

HOWEVER

Last year I received a PIN that took the discount up to Christmas Eve. and they did discount in January. I recommend looking at Mousesavers Discount History Chart to track the precise timing.

Is it just me, or does Jack not have enough "Jackisms" in the new POTC movie? I still liked it, but he could have been more Jack...

Shuttergirl,
You have asked a few questions here lately about flight costs and discounts,I get the feeling you are scheming! ;)

Got any plans for the Christmas Holidays? ;)

Hahahaha, not really. But my DH turns 40 on 7 January and a truly loving wife surely would surprise him with a trip to his favourite city, NYC right???

There isn't really any secret plan but I'm always just planning and somehow the universe just makes it happen, I'm blessed that way. Let's hope my blessings continue.

My first trip to the US was supposed to be for Christmas 2009 but my FIL became seriously ill and we just felt we couldn't be away at the time. He is still ill but I know we are both keen to not travel to family this Christmas. The plan is to stay home but I'm sure his arm can be twisted, just need to find the perfect bait. Maybe another Bruce Springsteen concert :rotfl2:

Bec, my "one week until she turns 13" year old daughter love love loves Jack but ironically she has only seen the first movie. I bought the next 2 movies on DVD today as a gift and then we will go and see No. 4 at the pics. Looking forward to seeing more Jack.

Thanks Sugarglider for the buzz kill :lmao::lmao:. A girl can dream right :rotfl:.

I was thinking more January room discounts but was dreaming about "free dining" hahaha

You're the 2nd person I've heard that from. I dunno. I don't quite agree. I found it a lot of fun overall so you didn't really rely on Jack to make the movie like in others.
I like 1 the best. But this was much better than 3. My friend missed the Keira Knightly storyline :confused3 but I liked it not being there.

I found it funny how similar the mermaids were to the HP ones :rotfl2:

Forgot to mention we saw Mary Poppins last weekend. We were in the nosebleeds / real cheap seats and had a good time. Well worth it. Audience was mainly 6-12 year old girls with their mums/nans/aunts etc. A good number of dads, not many boys. It goes for about 2 hours 40, so I wouldn't take a younger child.

Food was really exe, as usual with these things. I popped up to the supermarket before we went and grabbed some Malteezers for the girls at $2.50 each rather than $7.50 :scared1:, yep $7.50 at the theatre!

If you're going and will be driving, esp for the daytime session you may be better parking at the Ent Cent and walking up to the Capitol Theatre about 250 meters or so. Save you having to negotiate CBD parking and what looked like craziness getting in and out.

PS - 120 days to go.

Just went to see Mary Poppins last night. Row B of Dress circle. Damn good seat. Was annoyed I couldn't seem to get row A as it was blacked out no matter when I picked. It was where we sat for Lion King. But with no movement through the audience of the stalls I'd say B is better. Of course assuming you dont get Lurch sitting in front of you ;)
Railing was troubling the kids in A a bit. Although they will give you a cushion.

Show production quality was top notch. The cast was very good. The Orchestra brilliant. My family didn't want to go as they didn't think it was worth the money for not being on Broadway...
The capitol theatre ain't perfect so that may let it down a bit?? But I couldn't see where it provided many constraints. And as for the cast. I think the Aussie cast was great. The Aussie twang in the voice of the cook really made her funny. I took a while to warm to Mary but she was great. Bert was awesome. Again I was a bit unsure as he is young. But he's great.

Thoughts - more specific

At intermission I was a little unsure of my thoughts. The changes in plot from the film were getting a bit strange for me. There is this scene where it goes quite dark and my hesitant reaction was not just me. There was this feeling of....ok...now what...
but the 40 mins after intermission were the best. Just brilliant

You have to go in realizing this isn't the movie on stage. You do get the core story and feed the birds and supercali... And chim chiminie. But there are plot changes and completely new songs and scenes.

So yeah I loved it. My only 'gripe' if you will is the actual story changes. But they pull it together and you kind of need the mood change to get such a wonderful ending.

As for parking I decided to go with the Capital Square carpark which is next door as it was a cold and windy and rainy night last night. Finished about 10:45. But it did take me about 20mins to get along Pitt street from railway square to Campbell street
It was worth the 'hassle' when I was leaving as I didn't have to walk alone in the rain.
But don't dawdle...lol...as you need to still get out of the carpark. I pre paid my $20 after 6 flat rate and went straight to the car and got out quickly. But if you want to fiddle around you'll take a while. So send a representative to get the car while others go to the bathroom etc ;)

Great summary Queenie, I agree with everything you said - even on the parking. :) The scene with the toys freaked me out a bit - I think that was the one right before intermission. Oh, I disagree a bit with Mary, I never quite warmed to her. There was something a bit screechy in her voice at times.

We saw Mary Poppins on Broadway in 09 so we haven't bother to go back. I am going to see Hairspray in June though, hope it's as good as the movie, in fact I'm sure seeing those songs live will probably be better than the movie.

Yep...that toy scene...very disturbing...
I dunno. I warmed to her really near the end. She seemed to soften a bit?
I didn't think her screechy. Maybe her voice was a better last night? But yeah. I think it's just we know the movie Mary so well we're looking for that.

I read the books before I saw the movie and that was the point of Mary. You didn't warm to her till the end when you thought about how much she cared for the children and what magical experiences she gave them. I think the show did a good job of pulling the book and the Disney movie together, and I LOVED the sets.

I watched Gnomio and Juliet the other night - cute movie - but I was amazed at the amount of Disney references in it. DH actually thought it was a Disney movie.

Three that come to mind are;

  1. There's a tee shirt on a clothesline with Kermit's face on it.
  2. When a button is pushed the backyard fountain springs to life and starts playing "The Tiki Room" soundtrack
  3. The gnome in the mankini skips past singing "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts!"

I know the last one, isn't technically Disney, but when ever anyone sings "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" You know that it's Zazu they're thinking of.

I thought it was a Disney movie! I don't really like it, a few too many 'adult' references for my taste.

Tangled though I adore:lovestruc
