I got a voucher in the mail today offering me two nights at the Ramaza Plaza Resort in Orlando, a cruise to Nassau and back on Carnival, and three nights in "South Florida", along with a rental car for seven days for free...if I agree to attend a timeshare presentation and provide my own transportation to and from Orlando. Has anyone else ever done this? A girl I used to work with did, but her idea of a "nice" vacation and mine are definitely different...

The only reason we are considering it is because we are building a house, and vacation money is tight this year. We figured if we can scrounge up money for a plane ticket and our meals, then we can use our leftover day on our PHP and go to Disney. Otherwise, we'll be taking a three day trip to somewhere that we aren't too excited about, since we're broke..

I've never done this but it doesn't sound too bad, a free rental car for a week?

Do a search on this one. I think this is the one that is a real scam. Its not the Ramada Inn and you end up paying much more than stated. We have been on several timeshare vacations before, but I know I looked into this one it's not a good deal at all. Try posting on the budget board maybe they can give you more information. We have been on Marriott timeshares before and they are great, but I have read too many bad things about this company.

Oh, be careful!! I remember reading posts here on the DIS about this "deal" and almost everyone said it was a huge scam, and you end up paying far more than they tell you for every little thing!! There are some real horror stories on the Internet about this company!!! Run away!

Yeah.. we never even entertain these kinds of mail usually, we just shred them immediately. The only reason we kept it was because we actually knew someone who had did this before...But we decided to work extra hard this spring and take a weeklong cruise in September instead.

Read the fine print carefully, especially about the cruise. They use a picture of Carnival, but tell you it could be anothe cruise line. I know from friends who own a cruise agency that the line used is very bad, they drop you off on Grand Bahama and leave you there with no transport, no hotel arrangements, etc.

Remember, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Florida has a large office of consumer protection with a big travel division. Check with them is you want to see how many complaints have been files and what the outcomes have been.

I have gotten that offer many many times, once for fun I called, believe me, it's not "free" you have to pay a reservation fee, port taxes on the cruise, hotel taxes, food, drinks, transport to get there. Insurance on the rental car, etc. There are plenty of inexpensive ways to go on a quick cruise and have a great time, and there are lots of hotel deals to be had with out going through a time share presentation.
