We have just returned from a 12 night stay at this establishment - and thought I would post a review - I will also similar on TA shortly.

Ramada Maingate was not our initial choice - the other 2 we were seriously considering were already booked so we searched around TA and found this one , it was rated #7 of the Anaheim hotels so that was appealing as was its proximity to DL.

We booked it about 6 months before our trip and we checked the updated reviews regularly - a couple of not so good ones had us a tad concerned however we chose to persevere - a good decision in the end .

Strangely there is very little written about this hotel on this board or any other board , nor is it advertised in any of the Australian Travel Brochures .

Now to our review !

We stayed in a premium room and I concede lesser standards of rooms may affect the experience.

Our room was located at the rear of the property on the third floor . It was furnished with 2 exceptionally comfortable Queen beds and plenty of soft pillows . A Fridge , Microwave , Iron and board and 32 inch LCD TV were also in the room. Two tables and chairs and a good size bathroom and sink and bench completed the room along with a small wardrobe. The room was a very good size and accomodated 4 of us and all our baggage easily . From the front door you have a great view of the fireworks - however we only watched them from here twice as we were in the park the other nights . The room was exceptionally quiet and that is a big factor for me, also the air conditioning was as quiet as it could possibly be.

Stepping back a bit our reservations were made directly with the hotel and were done easily , efficiently and friendly . It was not the cheapest hotel but that was not a deciding factor in the end.

To be honest we didnt have much to do with the front desk during our stay however if we did they were very friendly , polite , helpful and respectful .

Location is excellent - a 50 metre walk to the crosswalk and then the standard 5 minute walk to the entrance . There would only be 2 or 3 hotels closer than the Ramada . An example one day we took our places front and centre of the castle for the fireworks when we decided we needed sweats as it was getting cooler , it took me 21 minutes round trip back to the ramada that included fighting the crowds and queueing to come back in .

The property is large with ample parking in fact it has more than enough parking . There is a very good size pool set in the middle of the property . It is heated and has a shallow end for the little kids and a deep end for the oldies . A Nice warm spa is set beside it , there is ample seats and tables poolside . The pool water quality was exceptionally clean ( believe me I know my pool water quality !) .

Breakfast is included - this was a bit bland to be honest - toast , limited cereals , donuts and danishes , fruit and coffee and waterdown juice . Having said that it met our requirements and certainly saved us a few dollars each day . Next time we will take our own honey and jams . Some days they had muffins and they were beaut !

Housekeeping was fine , they made the room daily and kept it spotless for us , sometimes they didn't leave uis enough towels or took the shower caps and didnt replace them but this wasnt a real issue - we were able to source them quite easily from annother maid or the front desk .

A couple of fast food shops out the front as well as numerous restaurants within walking distance made eating easy after a hard day . Also out the front was a tour desk , T Shirt shop and photo shop .

I have no trouble recommending this property whatsoever and after doing a casual walk thru of the other 2 properties we were seriously considering we are so glad we chose this property. This hotel is definitely worth considering .

Thanks Rossip - it's great to hear it from an Aussie perspective, especially given our stops are often longer than average. We're looking at 8 nights next year and Ramada Maingate is one of my options if MIL comes with us.

A quick question, if you don't mind - how were the laundry facilities?

No dramas kylie - Laundry had 2 large coin operated washers and 2 dryers , it was adequate .

happy to answer any other Q's for you

I'm curious what the other 2 properties you considered were.
Thank you for your review, I'm looking at this property for an upcoming stay but wasn't sure about it.

HoJos and Candy Cane - from our perspective it was every bit as good if not better than those two .

Rooms are way bigger than candy cane - a good 5 minutes closer than both , pool was bigger than CC - few other reasons .

But remember my review is for the premium rooms , some of the standard rooms up front did not look nearly as good .

If you get a Premium room you won't be disapointed

After looking at your pics from your previous thread,my wife and I spent our honeymoon there over 20yrs ago. Of course back then it had not been remodeled yet and was called the Saga Motel. :surfweb:

Just wanted to say DO NOT get this confused with the Ramada Maingate LIMITED. This other is no where near the maingate, customer service is absolutely horrendous and the reviews for it are comparable to the customer service.

I booked this Limited in error and realized my error about 8 minutes after booking a non refundable rate. It took me about 45 days before the manager would even return my call. Finally was able to get a 66% refund. Don't care, as I would never have stayed there, no matter how much I money I had to throw away.

Very deceptive with the names, and I just wanted to let you all know.

The Ramada LIMITED is on Beach, we actually drove to it on our last trip as we are considering it for a stay next month. I'm not sure we want to stay so far away tho, the rate they have is fabulous tho.......The Ramada Limited had nice rooms, we were able to see one on Sunday, the only issue I had was it had a funny smell in the room, which can probably be combated by spraying Oust. I am trying to convince DBF to stay closer tho, I'd rather stay at the Ramada Maingate being discussed in this thread then the Ramada Limited. :)
