Looks like it's going to rain the entire time we are at Universal. :( Rainy day tips from our resident Universal pros?

save your money and don't buy the ex pass.
when it rains, crowds tend to thin out.

you can do more at the studios as so many of the rides are indoors.
at simpsons, kang is outdoors. RRR outdoors also. that's 2 rides that could be affected.

the potter shows of the singing entertainment is done outdoors without cover overhead.

at ioa, you have 3 rides that are outdoors at seuss, P. flyers/small roller coaster near FJ are outdoors, Doom is outdoors
that's 6 at IOA that might or might not operate depending if it is a downpour type of rain.

the rides will operate outdoors in a light rain.
if it is a downpour or if lighening is within 5 miles, they will be shutdown.

go and do the parks but choose footwear that can handle the rain.
nothing worse than getting blisters from wet socks rubbing toes in your shoes.
sandals might work better.

bring a small plastic baggie you can close for your cell phone.
use a waterproof bag for cameras.

ponchos can help, umbrellas also if it rains straight done and no wind.

if the rain is light, might as well take in the water rides.
you are going to get wet anyway....

i do hope it is not a totally wet weekend for you when you go.
so many times weather issues are predicted and it never happens.

i hate hearing rain in the predictions for the time periods i plan to go to the parks.
i check weather predictions up to the day i leave for my trips

We bring nice ponchos from home...the park ponchos are nice quality, but pricey ($11 each 4 years ago) If it looks like heavy rain, don those ponchos quick...those Florida storms can come down fast and furious. Last time there was a heavy storm, we got drenched in less than 5 mins, then bought ponchos. The parks cleared out, but we were miserably cold. All the restaurants and indoor attractions still have their ACs at full blast.

When we asked if they turned them down when everyone was soaked and shivering, they said they had no control over the AC. So, just a warning, stay as dry as possible! And like Mac said, choose the right shoes...I was fine in my strappy Earth Shoes sandals, but DH was miserable in his running sneakers and socks.

Also, if there's lightning anywhere near the parks, the boats do stop running. The walking paths are not covered either. Just a heads up :)

You might also look into bringing/ purchasing rain jackets/slickers/wind breakers rather than ponchos if you have them. Right now it says the highs are going to be in the mid 80's with the lows in the mid 60's, and with rain jackets/ windbreakers you'd be able to beat the rain with some protection from the cold without feeling like a big plastic bag. You can find them relatively cheap at Target/Walmart and other stores, and use them at other times if you don't already have them, and use them for park evenings. My husband swears by his- we got a three in one from LL Bean and just take the insulated lining out and he's good to go. I have a really light weight windbreaker, wear a normal cap, and we share a golf umbrella that compacts down to a really small size that fits into a gallon ziplock bag. We pull it out when we need it, and throw it in the backpack when we don't. Same with the jackets. And there's no sticky feeling from the poncho plastic. YMMV.

:hippie: Have fun! We have tickets to :maleficen Club Villain Saturday night so we'll be dodging storms and rain on the other side with you! We were going to Disneybound it but with the weather, I think we'll just wait and see. :-)

Then again, it said it was going to pour all day yesterday afternoon, and it was nice and sunny. Go Florida weather! :sunny:

Thank you all for the replies! I love the idea of a rain jacket instead of the poncho. I'll have to check target this week. We have disney ponchos that we will pack as well. I'm planning on wearing my Crocs sandals, so no issue with wet socks. But my guys will have a problem with their footwear.

I feel like so much of the fun is outside at Universal. I'm pretty worried. We have canceled this trip two years in a row for family emergencies. I would hate to have the whole trip bummed out by the rain.

Many thanks for the well wishes. Fingers crossed that we get a couple of dry days.

feel free to wear your disney rain ponchos at the darkside.
many have and you'll blend in with the blue ponches during rain storms.
